Vehicle Detail
This 1978 Mercury Marquis Brougham was purchased new at Benson Lincoln Mercury in May of 1978 in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh, PA. My father wanted to purchase one of the last full size cars before downsizing. Ford and Mercury transitioned to the panther platform in 1979, followed by Lincoln in 1980. The car was ordered with the following options: 460-4V V-8, power seats and windows, cruise control, A/C, AM/FM four speaker stereo, and clear protective coating around the bottom of the doors and fenders, all factory options. The car was then Ziebart undercoated shortly after purchase. This car has been lovingly garaged all these years and never driven in snow or salt. The car was taken to his mechanic every 6 months for oil change and the other fluids were changed out every two years or so. He also kept up with belts, hoses, etc. This car was titled to me in May of 2012. I flew back to Pittsburgh and took the car to a local repair/tire center to have it examined. I had the front hubs pulled and the front wheel bearings re-packed. They checked everything out and thought the car looked good. I had them put on 4 new Michelin LTX-MS2 tires and drove the car 650mi home. It did just great on the trip and I have continued to drive the car several days a week, putting about 2000mi on the car since May. If I had a good garage at home to store the car I would not be selling, this is a fantastic like new 1978 car that gets compliments everywhere I drive. But, I don't have a garage to dedicate to the car so I am willing to sell it to someone who can better care for the vehicle. I would hate for the car to deteriorate being stored outdoors. Everything works except for the cruise control and the fore-aft portion of the power seats, all else is good. The paint, vinyl roof, and interior are original. This car is 100% original! This car is a fantastic example of the last of the large American sedans, and I'm sad to see it go. I've loaded many high quality pictures of the vehicle and I think the condition and quality of this car will be self evident. The car is being sold with no warranty and is being sold as is where is. The buyer will have the responsibility of transportation from the sale location. I will try to log on every evening to answer questions. Thanks for looking!
