Vehicle Detail

Its time to let go of my 1962 Corvette which I have owned since 1975. Bought out of a barn in barely running extremely poor cosmetic condition, I needed it to make about 150 miles to get it home. The convertible top was in shreads and the second and third gear syncros were toasted. The dash pad crumbled at the slightest touch and there was so much dirt in the car, I didn't know there was carpeting on the floor. Couldn't trust any of the instrumentation and the seat cushions were shot. Upon making it home a neighbor who was professional mechanic listened to it run and informed me the engine had a bad piston slap. At the time I had no idea what that meant but figured it wasn't good. He explained it most likely had a cracked piston and would need to be rebuilt. Unfortunately he was right. This definitely was not in my original plan but since the trans had to come out, my as well pull the engine to. After tear down of the engine the block was sent out to be cleaned and magnafluxed, more bad news badly cracked and not worth rebuilding. Solution was purchase of a brand new 350ci 4 bolt main long block and reassemble with period correct exterior components. The Muncie 4 speed transmission was also rebuilt installing all new bearings and syncros. Stripped the existing paint, which appeared to have been applied with a garden sprayer down to bare glass. Found a pretty good body with only minor previous damage to nose and rear. Repairs of all existing damage and stress cracks was completed and the body was refinished in the white acrylic laquer you see in the photos. The conplete interior was gutted and cleaned. The instrument cluster and windshield were also removed to allow installation of the new dash pad. All instruments were removed and cleaned while the cluster housing was restored and repainted. Sigmificant wiring problems were cleaned up and now all guages are fully functional with the exception of the oddometer and the clock. The original Wonder Bar Radio is currently out of the car but is included in the sale. Unfortunately its currently not working. New carpeting was installed and the seats were reworked to provide some cushioning. The convertible top frame was removed, sandblased, and repainted in black Imron epoxy. The top was replaced with a new Al Knoch replacement, currently in excellent condition. Next the marginal brakes were addressed, all wheel cylinders were rebuilt, new front and rear wheel bearings were installed, as well as new brake hoses, and brake shoes. The complete front end was also torn down and rebuilt. This included the upper and lower inner control arm shafts, upper and lower outer shafts, new king pin shafts and bushings, tie rod ends and all associated hardware. The car was getting close to road worthy when I got a Job promotion which required a reloaction. The rest of the car was reassembled shortly before I had to leave so it was into storage for the next dozen or so years. Additional work which has been done on the car since comming out of storage include: Original generator rebuilt and installed with new voltage regulator. New battery installed 11/2012. Radiator recored and restored. Fan clutch replacd Intake manifold replaced and Holley 650 cfm carb wasa rebuilt. Fuel tank sender unit restored and reinsatlled with new gasket. So what I have now is a pretty good looking 10-15 footer / driver. From 10-15 feet the car looks way above average for a 50 year old car and always get compliments form the people on the street. Yes there are some nicks, chips, and some stress cracks can be seen when and if you are looking for them. All of the chrome is above average driver condition. The car starts and runs reliably now and has never stranded me. There a couple broken exhaust hangers which causes some rattles and the rear springs are starting to feel their age. I am using air shocks to maintain the desired rear ride height. The car is being sold where is, as is. No warranty is included. I am requesting a $ 2,000.00 deposite at the close of the action and full payment within 7 days. The car will not be released until all funds have been received and cleared. Cash, bank transfer or certified check perfered. The car may also be advertised locally so I reserve the right to terminate this auction at any time. Upon completion of any deal I can hold the car for up to 30 days and will cooperate to assist with any shipping if needed. Thank You for your interest. I believe Reserve Price have set is very fair and realistic. Good Luck !!!!!!
