Vehicle Detail

1960 MGA 1600 Project Car Up for auction is a 1960 MGA 1600 roadster. For anyone who wishes to own this rapidly appreciating classic British automobile (while it is still affordable!) this is the car to have! This 1960 model 1600 came with an upgraded brake system that included front disc brakes which were a huge improvement over the earlier 1500 series cars and also a larger 4 cylinder dual SU carbureted engine. This particular car was acquired at an estate sale in Michigan and at the time was completely apart and in boxes. We brought the car back to the shop and loosely assembled it to show its completeness so please don’t be too critical of the body alignment gaps which will fit perfectly when final assembled. We don’t know exactly to what extent the car has been restored from the prior owner but from what we can see it was well done with no expense spared. This is car in the process of a body off restoration. The body was rebuilt to new standards; all rusted panels, including new outer rocker panels, appear to be replaced with new metal and welded in professionally. There is no rust in the body and all the many nut plates are intact. The 2 rear fenders are new steel replacements from Victoria British at $850 each. The 2 front fenders we believe are original and not rusted or damaged and the 2 doors are in excellent original condition along with the aluminum hood and boot lid. The frame appears to be sand blasted and painted with no evidence of any prior accident damage with new wooden floorboards from Moss Motors. The front suspension appears to be totally rebuilt with rebuilt calipers, new rotors, hoses, spindle bushings, tie rods, springs, and hydraulic dampers. The rear axle appears to also be totally rebuilt with new brakes, cylinders, hoses, shoes, leaf springs, shackles, E brake cable, hydraulic dampers and links. The fuel tank has been flushed and sealed with ReNew fuel tank restoration process. The engine appears to be rebuilt, we removed the valve cover and it is clean with no sludge whatsoever, the engine turns freely and from what we understand is original to the car. The flywheel was new with a new pressure plate. The transmission appears to be rebuilt, it shifts smoothly but hard to tell what’s inside without taking it apart. The wheels are painted wires with new tires and the spare is only good for the wheel. From what we can tell there are some missing parts like the headlight buckets, dash switches, rear boot MG emblem, exhaust system, hard brake lines and wiring harness to name the big pieces. All of these parts can be readily acquired from many sources. There are several labeled bags with bolts, small brackets and other unusual parts that must go somewhere and we found the support rods and latches for the boot and hood that were not in the photo along with some other small items. If you are interested in doing a top shelf restoration but don’t want to get real dirty this car is for you! The hardest part of any restoration is done and from what you can see no expense was spared to get it to this point. This car basically needs taken back apart, painted the color of your choice (we believe the original color was red with black interior) re-assembled, install an interior, maybe chrome plate the original front bumper and enjoy while it appreciates! We can assist our foreign buyers with shipping using our broker or yours and can deliver straight to the port in New Jersey with an enclosed trailer. We reserve the right to stop the auction at any time since this car is advertised elsewhere. There is no warranty offered with this car and all sales are final. Cheers and bid victoriously! Tom Z.
