Just out of long-term storage this 450 SL represents the best of the W107 series cars that Daimler Benz began producing in the early 1970’s. Their quality and detail combined with the rugged, powerful durability of 4.5-liter dual overhead cam V-8 engine make them among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. Note: Several folks have asked why there's no history report on this and several other of our classic vehicle listings. This is because both CARFAX and AUTOCHECK only provide information on vehicles from model year 1981 forward when 17-digit VIN numbers became standardized throughout the industry. The title to the car is free and clear. There are no title brands for Salvage, theft or any nasty negatives to cause concern. I believe the miles are accurate as shown at jsut under 136,700. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, an SL of any variant is one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! I know you’ll admire its overall provenance. It has obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall condition is far better than most any other 30+ year-old Benz you’ll find out there. Rust? Please, this Mercedes HATES rust and you won’t find any here to cause you concern! The Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. At the sign of the first snowflake everyone panics and just stays home, so this car hasn’t seen metal-eating chemicals or road salt. Climb over, under and all around it, I know you’ll come up smiling! Having owned many dozens of Daimler vehicles over three decades, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. Honestly, this Benz has more raw power and it definitely accelerates faster than my ’99 E-Class daily driver! Over the past month I've driven the car over 500 miles and believe the odometer is accurate at just under 134,700 based on overall condition. CONDITION: In total, this is an extremely clean, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also a few small things needing attention: Hop in; fire up the strong V-8 and it starts immediately – even when cold! The automatic transmission shifts through the gears as expected. The car idles, runs and drives as I feel it should – immediate, strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no noticeable brake pull or alignment issues! The paint has had one quality respray to the factory color sometime in the past and holds quite a shine. On the interior the MB Vinyl-Tex bucket seats are well above average with only one spot on the back of the driver’s backrest. They’re comfortably protected by sheepskin seat covers. I’d also venture to guess that the carpets have always been covered with floor mats because they’re very clean and unfaded. There’s a small section missing on the shelf next to the driver’s left foot rest. The fold-down dark brown fabric soft top is in place but has cracks in the plastic windows. As pictured, all the door glass and windshield are crack & pit free. I’ve never figured out why, but Daimler can’t ever seem to install great radios in any of their vehicles. I get nothing from this classic Blaupunkt, so I’d just plan on upgrading to a modern AM-FM CD player. About the only other flaw I can think to point out is the A/C works, but could use a recharge as it doesn’t blow very cold. No issues with the heater, defroster or blower motor. All four alloy wheels are wrapped with great Michelin touring radials with at least 75-80% remaining tread. Overall, I feel this is a very roadworthy car and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it cross-country. If you decide to fly in I’m happy to pick you up at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
