1998 BMW 528i E39 166,850 miles Up for auction is a 1998 BMW 528i with 166,850 miles. This car was purchased from the local BMW dealership as a certified preowned car. This is a mechanically sound car for its age and milage. I have had the oil changed every 5,000 miles with Castrol 10w-40 motor oil. The engine runs great with no smoke (please see video). The tires are 40,000 mile tires with 30,000 miles still left on them. The heat and airconditioning work well. The belts, belt pulleys and lower radiator hose were replaced @ 160,000 miles The Front Brake Calipers were rebuilt @ 155,000 miles The Front Brake Pads and Roters were replaced @ 145,000 miles The Rear Brake Pads and Roters were replaced @ 142,000 miles The radiator and thermostat were replaced @ 129,000 miles The O2 sensors were replaced @ 129,000 miles The battery was replaced @ 128,000 miles The water pump was replaced @ 115,000 miles This car has a factory 6 CD changer in the trunk that sounds great. Cosmetically the clear coat has started to peel (see pictures) there are a few small dings (the top of the trunk lid has 5 small hail demples) but the car is solid with no major panel damage The leather interior is perfect with no seam rips. The car can be locked from the key fob and it has an alarm. The front and rear window weather stripping is cracked but does not leak. The drivers side rear window motor does not work. The cable inside the door for the window has become inoperable. Here is a link to a repair kit on ebay which is accompanied by a video of how to install. The drivers door window works however the cable has begun to make noises with its operation and so I use that window sparingly. The inside drivers door opening handle has broken. I have replaced this a couple of times over the last ten years. The last time it broke I did not replace it. I just put the cable between my fingers, pull, and open the door that way. There are no rear cup holders. The thermostat housing of this car is made of plastic. Ocassionally, in the winter, if the temperature is below freezing, after the motor has been turned off and the engine has started to cool at the end of the day, the housing will contract before the water pressure in the cooling system has cooled and neutralized pressure. This will cause a very small amount of antifreeze to leak on the ground. This only happens when it is very cold outside, never in the summer time. This is common with this model of motor. They make a metal thermostat housing that can be installed to take care of this. I would not hesitate to drive this car to any state in the lower 48 from Nashville. Even though this car is fifteen years old, it is safe and dependable. It uses about a half a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. The milage listed is the mileage at the time of the auction listing. I will be driving this car until auctions end so there will be a slight increase in actual mileage when car is picked up.
