1978 FORD F-150 CUSTOM 4X4This truck is all-original and in pretty solid shape. It has the desireable HEAVY DUTY version of the 300 six, which means it has heavy duty pistons, rings, bearings, rods, radiator, water pump and other peripherals. The engine cranks, starts, and runs perfectly, and the heavy duty NP 435 four speed shifts smooth and solid with no strange noises. The NP 205 all-gear drive transfer case shifts perfectly, with the whole 4x4 system fully functional. It has Dana 44 high pinion front axle and Ford 9" rear with 3.55 gearing and factory limited slip. There's no question about it, this is the ultimate heavy-half ton drivetrain that is sought after by both the Ford and Jeep community for the perfect combination of robust parts. Or the truck can be restored or just used as-is with many miles of life left either way. It has a new Kirkland battery; cranks, starts, and runs great; clear Texas title but be advised that this truck has the HD 300 six with the only factory emissions being 49-state for 6k plus light trucks, which in this case is thermostatic air cleaner, automatic choke, and electronic ignition. It did not come with EGR, catalyst, or evaporative emissions controls from the Norfolk, VA plant.It does not knock, smoke, pour oil out of any seal, although there are numerous wet spots along sealed joints that have never been touched. Look at the pics - this is a virgin truck that has never been hacked-up, lifted, or greasy-kidded. It drives-out nice but will need work to make it safe and street legal:The instruments do not work, except the oil pressure and temp gaugeThe alignment of the steering wheel is off by 90 degreesThe front brake pads are shot...metal on metal and unsafeThe truck is an ideal parts donor for Jeep YJ/TJ/JK that desire the Dana 44 high pinion front axle, as well as the 9" rear. It also has the excellent NP 435 with unsyncronized 6.68 low 1st gear which makes an ideal conversion for the crawler rig using a Novak conversion. The Ford 300 this truck has is the industrial/commercial version that alone makes it an ideal replacement. This is one of those survivor trucks we wanted as a kid but dad bought the green shortbed 4x2 with a 351m boat anchor!Now's your chance to get the real deal, uncut, unhacked, unscrewed-with, just ready for bodywork, steambath, paint, and details. The guys will want your autgraph because you'll be the only one with an ACTUAL LEGIT truck!!!Look closely at the pics, as it's rough and the rust is commensurate it's age but not out of the ordinary for 73-79 vintage. It has aftermarket ac that does not work but is all there and intact. the cab corners and front pedestals are solid, and the floors are not too bad. Bed front, cab top and flange, door bottoms, and hood edge have the most issues. However given the low cost of repop doors, hoods, etc., the resto is about as economical as you'd expect. And what you'd have left is a strong truck that is deserving a worthy owner.I had originally listed this truck on eBay but cancelled the auction when I decided to keep.
