Vehicle Detail
This motorcycle is being listed as *** NO RESERVE *** & will be sold to the last bidder - GOOD LUCK! It grieves me to sell this bike because I know how difficult it will be to replace it. This is my 3rd XR500R (the other '84 XR500R's were original owner bikes) and this one is by far in the best original condition which is why I currently own it. I've owned a ton of off road & street bikes over my lifetime and plenty of XR's ranging from my very first one which I purchased with my hard earned paper route money at the age of twelve (1971 Honda SL100 Metallic Blue) to more current XR600 and 650R's. I have had a lifetime love and passion for motorcycles and I still do! Believe me, if I didn't need the money for other reasons this bike would not be for sale - ever! That being said I hope this goes to a true motorcycle enthusiast that will appreciate it for what it is. I've had the pleasure of riding this bike through the Arizona mountains and I can tell you this will take you wherever you want to go and climb any hill you have the courage to encounter. This bike starts every time like clockwork with proper starting procedures which I will be glad to share with the buyer if unfamiliar. Remember this bike has been ridden and is not brand new, after all it is almost 30 years old! It has it's share of small paint nicks & scratches in the original frame. My favorite part about this bike is the original plastic, seat, gas tank, handguards, etc.. This bike would look really nice in a Honda dealers showroom on display or it can be a daily rider if you prefer. I sold my 2000 XR600R after I purchased my first XR500R because the XR500 felt much lighter to move around and I absolutely love the torque of the 500 engine with the dual carbs, you have to ride this bike to believe it. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at (928) 632-0151 between the hours of 8am - 8pm MST or email if preferred. My name is Tom and I will be glad to answer any question or concern you may have. I will help with shipping if needed. I can deliver or meet someone close to the Phoenix area, help crate the bike if you provide the crate, etc.. I have a free & clear Arizona title notarized ready to go to the buyer once payment has been made. THIS IS THE MOTORCYCLE that started it all for Honda with it's 1st BAJA VICTORY!!! Since 1984 HONDA has been the KING of the BAJA and never looked back! ++++ This particular XR500R is in great original condition ++++ ++++ Garage kept and adult owned it's entire lifetime in the warm dry climate of Arizona ++++ ***** NEEDS: Fork seals (left fork leaking) ***** ***** IMPERFECTIONS: Gouge in gas tank on right side (see pics), typical scratches, nicks & rub marks on frame & engine ***** ++++ Original Owner's Manual, STP Oil Filters & some extra seals, etc INCLUDED ++++ ++++ email for more pictures (I have alot of close-up pics) ++++ Excerpt from Wikepedia: “1983’s XR (the 1983 Honda XR 500RD) featured a considerable change from the previous 1981 and 1982 Pro-Link models. This year Honda upgraded the power plant to an RFVC (Radial Four Valve Combustion) engine, which also featured a ‘Dry-Sump’, whereby the frame held the oil needed to lubricate the motor. The engine was feed by two 28 mm slide valve carburetors. Another first for the XR was a front twin piston caliper hydraulic disc brake and the “non nut-crusher” seat. The headlight mask was redesigned and inverted so that the headlight was on the bottom and the number plate was at the top. The suspension (front and rear) was also given an extra inch of travel boosting it to 11 inches. Wheels were 17-inch rear and 21-inch front.” The 1984 Honda XR 500RE was similar to the 1983 RD, also this years RE sported the plastic ‘bark-buster’ hand protectors. The 1984 RE model was to be the last of the Honda XR 500 series. 1984 Honda XR500R (RE) Specs: Engine and transmission Engine type: 4-stroke, 1-cylinder, SOHC, Air-cooled, dry sump, in-frame oil reservoir, gear driven counter-balancer, automatic cam chain tensioner. I ordered NEW Decal material and covered the holes which is why you see some indentations in the panel. I will include the balance of the decal material with purchase along with the owners manual, etc. - I am also not sure if the other decals are original or not and also the tires which I would think might be obvious because of the age and condition. Thanks again for all of your interest and good luck! The winner will be very pleased with this one!
