Vehicle Detail

Up for bid here is a Rare 1952 Chevrolet "Loadmaster" 3/4 Ton Pickup Truck with a unique hoist and dump bed on it. It is blue and black in color and in good unrestored condition. It was used as a working farm-ranch truck in Montana prior to being purchased by an antique collector type of person in 1980. I purchased this truck at an auction held only a couple of days before his death earlier this year. As for the basic facts, this truck had 61,507 miles on it as of earlier today. The serial number on the door tag reads "5KR1" and "7990." Actually, the papers say that the vehicle identification number is 5KRL7990. This truck has 7.50 X 17" tires on it. The engine is a 216 6 cylinder. This truck has the highest gears available installed. I don't have much experience with this truck myself but thankfully the previous owner left notes. There's a tag on the steering column that says that a factory new engine was installed at 42,600 miles. Brakes were done and a new 6 volt fuel pump was installed at 61,000 miles. According to another tag, this truck had 61,117 miles on it when it was serviced in July of 1999. Another tag says that a new water pump was installed on 3-30-2001 at 61,238 miles. The main problem that I've had with this truck is due to the fact that it had been sitting for a few years before the auction. We barely made it home due to crud in the fuel line. We ended up having the fuel tank cleaned out by a professional because it had rust and such in it. The truck is now running fine. We drove it about 25 miles recently when we had a little auction emergency and needed more hauling capacity. It drives nice for an old truck. What's wrong with the truck? Well, the hoist goes up but the cylinder seal leaks. It probably dried out while not being used. Then, when the auction people that I know pretty well first started the truck up and drove it to the auction site, it was smoking pretty bad. It is better now but it is still smoking some. I'm not a mechanic but I've talked to some knowledgeable people who say that it is due to the truck sitting and the problem should get better as the valve seals or guides get remoistened or some such. If you are a mechanic familiar with these engines, you not doubt know a lot more than I do about it. I will just say that the truck is running real good and the people I know have kind of debated about whether the smoking is an issue or not. I don't want to worry anyone by making a big deal out of this but I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention that it seems to smoke more than it should. I did check the oil today and it is right at the full line. The other problems that I've noticed are minor. The left turn signal wasn't working today and my wife said that the brake lights didn't come on when I stepped on the pedal. Again, this isn't a perfect truck but it is in pretty good unrestored shape. It can be used for work or it would be an easy restoration project should you want to go that route. Digging in the glove compartment today, I found a handwritten ad for this truck. Evidence indicates that the previous owner made an attempt to sell this truck in 2008. I will type the words he wrote. "Chevrolet 1952 3/4 ton standard cab pickup truck with dump bed box 100 bushel design. Factory rebuilt 216 cu. in. overhead six original type engine with about 15,000 miles on it since installation. 7.50 X 17" Michelin all-steel tires. Highest gears available. Second owner since 1972. Note emergency brake incomplete-does not work." That's what he said about it then and for what it's worth he was asking more than my starting bid price now. I'm not sure if the dump bed came from Chevrolet or not. As I understand it, Chevy made several different hybrids of pickups and trucks back in this era. This is the first one that I've personally seen like this so it is kind of unique. There is a wooden bed under the tin floor of the bed that you see. Let's see, the previous owner saved receipts in the glove box. I don't see anything too exciting but a new muffler was put on in 1988. Some shock or strut work was done in 1990. If I'm reading things right, glasspacks were installed in 1992. It has kind of a dual exhaust system on it. Well, now you know about as much as I do about this truck. The best thing that I can say about it is that during the roughly 3 months that I've owned it that about everyone who has seen it has fallen in love with it. It's a nice old truck! I hope that the photos do it some justice. Happy Bidding! Note- Of course, you will have to make arrangements to pick up the truck or have it picked up. I've sold other vehicles to distant people before and I've accepted different forms of payment from cash to a personal check if they seem trustworthy. If not cash, I'd prefer a certified check or Paypal. Anyway, I'd just like for there to be ample time for your payment method to clear before the truck is actually picked up. We'll just have to work out the payment-shipping details when the time comes.
