1974 Volkswagon Safari / Thing For Sale locally. Getting a lot of questions on condition. I am very understanding of the fears that come with buying something without seeing it in person; I would be the same way. I didn't restore the car. I bought it about 4-5 months ago from the man and his son that did restore it. I bought it to keep it to use as my primary drive car, I never intended on selling it, however, finances are dictating otherwise. I looked for some time for a "Thing" and all I could find was junk for prices as much and more than the starting bid is here. I had given up looking when a friend called me about this one. This car is honestly very very clean and rust free, totally different than the others I had previously looked at. I think the pictures speak for themselves. I would rate the paint job about a 7 or 8 out of 10, 10 being perfection. I had a reputable mechanic look at it and told him to fix anything mechanical he could find wrong with it. When I went to pick it up he said he wouldn't charge me anything because he couldn't find anything wrong with it. In-fact, he didn't even charge me for looking it over, he just said, "bring me any of your future business". As I said before, the car starts, runs, and drives very good, it has more acceleration than I expected from a stock (except for Weber 2 brl. carb.) VW 1600 cc engine. It is ready to drive anywhere. You could fix the paint flaws, that are in the pictures below, and install the lights that I have it the boxes. It really doesn't need much of anything else. If you want a "Show Car", then paint the whole car. This is the best, honest description I can give. I hope this helps ease every ones mind. Original Restoration 2008 driven little, garage kept, clean in excellent shape. Black and gray w/ black seats. New "JCS Engines" 1600 engine w/2 brl. carb. Electronic ign. No rust, no dents, no bondo. Por 15 on floor boards. Just had tune-up with new wires. Extras: 3 boxes extra parts including complete new tail light housings and lenses. New front turn signal housings. New Wipers and wiper blades. Stock carb and breather, extra wiper motor and many other parts. Stainless steel "Thing shop" latches on top and new windshield. Front tow bar, rear spare tire carrier, rear hitch. Top, top frame and Seats, like new. Heavy duty "Thing shop" convertible top frame, like new. Starts instantly and Runs and drives good. Extra padding in seats, very comfortable. Many receipts for parts and service done. New locking gas cap. The heater work fine. Complete parts and service manuals. Previous owner touch up done on lower part of body because of chipped paint to prevent rust as seen in the pictures but no bondo or rust. Pictures do not do interior justice, afternoon sun makes interior look dingy. Original mileage is 82k and engine has approx. 20k. The included heavy duty tow bar can be used to transport the vehicle making buyer pick up more convenient. A 2" ball hitch will eliminates the need for multi car pick up.
