This complete restoration began with a dry, RUST FREE 1971 Westfalia bus with factory air-conditioning. Over the past year it has been restored both mechanically and cosmetically. THIS IS A FULL-ON COMPLETE RESTORATION. Everything has been disassembled, cleaned & reconditioned. Replacements were made only as necessary in order to maintain originality. All original glass, cabinetry, child cot and upper cot, mosquito screen, & original VW extension cord are present and in good condition. Sink cabinet is complete with original water tank (cleaned & sanitized) and working manual faucet pump. All interior cabinetry, paneling and flooring were removed. All surfaces were thoroughly cleaned. All wood was sanded and refinished, including cabinet interiors which were disassembled in order to obtain a proper fit and finish. Warped, stained or broken plastic moldings & handles were repaired or replaced as needed. Our professional painter stripped the bus, then applied two coats of primer, two coats of color and finished with two coats of clear. Paint was wet-sanded between all coats, then buffed to a mirror finish. The paint comes with a 5-year limited warranty which includes chipping, fading, peeling or cracking. The wheels were also sanded and professionally sprayed with the factory silver color. Following the paint process we installed the following: · new 3 window pop-top canvas, pop-top rubber seals & luggage rack seal · all new window and door rubber · new window scrapers · new TMI cloth front seat covers · all new custom cloth camper upholstery and 4 inch, top quality upholstery foam · new curtains including windshield privacy curtain, lined for privacy and protection from the sun. Original 1600 engine, recently tuned, valves adjusted, all new vacuum lines, new fuel lines & new motor mounts. THE BUS IS MECHANICALLY SOUND AND DRIVEN DAILY. · Original 4 speed transaxle serviced – works as it should. No funny noises or popping out of gear. · All new Sachs clutch assembly (fly wheel, throw-out bearing, disc) · Entire brake system has been gone through including all new soft lines, new booster, vacuum diaphragm, brake shoes & hardware. · Original Volkswagen CV joints were professionally inspected, cleaned, repacked and new CV boots installed. · Front end suspension inspected and new German ball joints installed by professional VW mechanic. · New (correct to VW specs) Hankook 185 R 14 tires. · Original heater boxes cleaned and powder coated included in sale. · Original nose-mount spare tire holder included 1971 Westys are highly sought after because it is the last year of the very dependable, less costly and easier to work on 1600 upright engine. It is also the first year for factory front disc brakes. This is an exceptionally clean, dry Southwest bus - a time capsule on wheels. Everything works as it should.
