Vehicle Detail
History: Grace, Pace, and Space. These are three things Sir William Lyons founder of Jaguar Cars LTD. said his cars were all about. They were also about winning races and stunning beauty. The company was founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company and after WWII the name was changed to Jaguar when the company started producing automobiles. Jaguar went through mergers and different owners including Ford. The XK8 was the first car entirely designed under Ford's ownership. From the E-Type of the 60's to the current XK's of today every Jaguar on the road stirs passion. My Auction: I will attempt to describe this fine automobile to the best of my ability. All used cars have flaws, please be realistic in your expectations, I will point out anything that I think stands out as I believe anyone who doesn't isn't being thorough with their auction. . Please ask all questions BEFORE you bid. Please view the link to all the additional pictures I have posted on www.flickr.com BEFORE you bid, some of them have captions. I want you to know exactly what you are getting. Please read my ENTIRE auction carefully and maybe even several times BEFORE you bid. Also please be respectful of my auction, these cost real money that I have to work hard for just like you do. Please make sure you have the money in place BEFORE you bid and have already asked your significant other or whoever you need permission from to buy a car BEFORE you bid. Thanks and good luck! Link to over 70 pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/89373218@N07/ If you click on the picture you can make it larger, next click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the picture, this makes it even larger, next click on "view all sizes" on the upper right and you can supersize the images. They come out much better then they do on Ebay and you can really get a feel for the quality of this car. If Ebay disables the link you can simply cut and paste it to your browser. If that still doesn't work e-mail me and I will make sure you get the photos e-mailed to you. Exterior Condition: This XK8 is finished in stunning Charcoal Metallic over Oatmeal Connolley leather. It looks almost black and this is the color combination everyone wants. The paint on this car is as smooth as glass and shines like a mirror. There are no swirl marks, hazing, fading, cracking, or peeling of the paint. There really are no scratches to talk about however the car has its fair share of minor dings and stone chips as you would expect with a car of this age and mileage. There is a small cluster of minor dents behind the drivers side rear wheel. I think they can be removed with paintless dent removal, there is no scuffs to the paint there, and they really are not that noticeable. There is also a cluster of dings by the right rear tailight that I point to in one of the pictures. There are some rust bubbles on the passenger side windsheild frame. They are only on the passenger side, and I point to them in one of the photos. There is also a rust bubble that I point to in the pictures at the very bottom of each rear fender where it meets the bumper. Nothing has broken through and they are hardly noticeable. The convertible top looks brand new and probably is. There are no rips or tears anywhere to be found in it. The wheels are also in like new condition. The windsheild has a crack along the bottom but the rest of the glass is good. Overall I would say the exterior of the car looks fantastic and turns heads especially with the top down, I have pointed out the few minor flaws and they are just that: minor. Interior Condition: The interior on this car is in really nice shape. Between the Oatmeal leather and the deep rich burl walnut trim this car looks very high class. The only thing that can reasonably be faulted is the drivers seat back. The side bolster has wear from getting in and out as well as the seat back. Even the drivers seat bottom looks great. The rest of the interior looks fantastic. The center armrest was replaced with a newer one and is a shade off. The carpets are very clean and the car does not have any weird odors. The trunk is also spotlessly clean and actually still smells new. The engine is very clean and comes completely detailed. Mechanically: This Jaguar runs and drives but needs work. It has been sitting in a garage untouched for 5 years. The gasoline has turned to varnish. You will need to drain out the old gas and replace the fuel filter. The car also has a blown headgasket. I know this because white smoke comes out the exhaust and the oil on the dipstick is milky. As a result of these two problems the car runs poorly. I don't want to drive it because of risk of damaging the engine but I did drive it around the block. I got it up to about 30 m.p.h. and the transmission shifted smooth and I didn't hear any noises from the suspension. As I said the car felt fine at these speeds but I don't know if there is any other problems that will arise as you go faster. These are my opinions of what the car needs done to the engine, I am not a mechanic. I recommend as you take apart the engine to do the headgasket job you replace anything that looks like it has wear and you can start out with a zero miles rebuilt engine. Gaskets and other parts are very cheap, the headgaskets on Ebay are $43.00. Once the car is up and running you can go over it and make sure it doesn't need any other repairs, it is possible it does, I just want to be clear on this. The car does have good oil pressure. The needle goes right to the normal position and stays there and does not move. The airbag light is on which is probably a clockspring, a very common problem. Also the traction control/ABS light is on. The two work in conjunction with eachother, I think the car needs an ABS sensor at one of the wheels. There is no check engine light on. All of the buttons work on the interior except the passenger seat doesn't go backwards and forwards. All of the other seat functions work and I think it is the switch because it feels loose when you move it. The fan blower works but I do not want to run the engine long enough to test the heat or A/C. The power convertible top works great and all of the power windows work. Additional Notes: -Although the car runs and drives you have to tow it home. If you live locally you can call a local tow company. If you are having the car shipped you might want to ask them about shipping a car in this condition. I am worried the car might not be able to make enough power to drive up onto a steep ramp of a car hauler, remember the old gas is making it run poorly. Once it gets going its better, if they are ok with a running start it might work out OK -This is my late cousins car. As a result we have a signed clear Illinois title. If you live in a state that requires a notary on the title obviously this won't be possible. Illinois does not have a space for notary's and titling it in Illinois won't be a problem but I know there are a few states that require this. Check before you bid. -This car is sold AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. -If you don't have Paypal don't bid. -A $200 deposit must be made via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. The balance can be paid one of two ways. You can pay me cash in person. This means you will be counting out greenbacks and I will hand you the keys and the title. Or I will accept a bank to bank wire transfer. Once it clears my bank I will release the car. I will NOT accept any checks of any kind. You CANNOT pay the entire amount with Paypal, this is only for the deposit. -By bidding on my auction you are entering into a contract to purchase an automobile. This is not the first right of refusal. -If you would like to come see the car please feel free to do so before you bid. As I said I am not a mechanic but you are welcome to bring your mechanic. -Please don't contact me asking me the reserve price of the car. It is unfair to other bidders, if you want the car get in the game and bid and have some fun! That is what owning a Jaguar XK8 convertible is all about: FUN FUN FUN! The reserve is set very low and this car is priced to sell, this car was over $75,000 brand new so this will be a steal for the mechanically inclined. -If you have questions about the car please feel free to e-mail me or you can call me on the phone at 630-334-6974, I will be happy to talk to you, my name is Joe. -With some TLC you will be styling and smiling in this expensive and exotic convertible in no time. Everyone should own a convertible at some point in their lives! Good luck bidding to everyone! On Nov-04-12 at 07:27:36 PST, seller added the following information: After sitting on the high bid for two days the Ebayer "gric2131" has retracted his bid for the reason of "cannot contact seller." Now my phone number is in the listing or you can e-mail me. I have received no e-mails or phone calls from him and my phone is on 24-7 because I am a landlord so I can see missed calls so we know this isn't true. Obviously if he had questions he would have asked them BEFORE he bid anyway. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people this is not a game, it is an auction involving real money. Please be sure about your bid before you place it and be respectful of my auction like I asked in the beginning. Thanks -Joe
