Vehicle Detail

1964 Chrysler 300 Two-Door Hardtop VIN: 8243149924 By mid-summer of 1963 C.L. Warren knew it was time for an upgrade. He’d been driving his old Plymouth sedan for more than a few years and now a new sporty two door Hardtop was starting to make some sense. Driving along Puyallup’s Auto Row everyday on the way to and from work, this gorgeous 1964 Chrysler 300 had caught his eye and he knew his wife, Buelah, would absolutely love it! For several weeks it had been sitting there, highlighted on the point at the Chrysler Dealer and he knew it would not be for sale much longer. As an adventurous, yet practical man, Mr. Warren felt any replacement for his beloved, yet painfully slow, straight-six Plymouth must possess single, most important criteria: a powerfull V-8 Engine (why not with gallon of gas only 30 cents in ’64). When he stopped in the salesman opened the hood to show off the 383 Cu. In. mill and he was instantly sold. Mrs. Warren loved the sleek, modern look, the dash mounted push button automatic transmission shifter and she was thrilled by the rare factory AM-FM radio, allowing her to listen to classical music while driving (about the only thing heard on FM radio back then). The deal was consummated and the couple had their new car! Mr. Warren would continue to fuss over the Chrysler, always giving it regular attention and would own it for the rest of his life. After he passed, the “300” went to his nephew in nearby Tacoma. Several months ago the Chrysler came to us and is now up for sale to a lucky new owner. What you see here in my un-retouched photos is a remarkably nice, mostly original Mopar boulevard cruiser. If you have questions or would like to inspect the vehicle here at my Auburn, WA warehouse before the auction ends, please call me to set a meeting time. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is (206)914-1173. CONDITION: Little has been changed since the Warrens bought the car all those years ago. It still retains the basic look and feel just as it did when new. Sitting behind the wheel really is like going back almost a half century in time. The odometer shows 41,523. By August, 1976 it had accumulated only 16,110 miles. In the mid-1980’s the Chrysler was put in long-term storage after Mr. Warren. With only a five-digit counter, I have no way to know what the actual miles truly are, but there’s a chance they could be original. Yes, those are the original license plates that were issued to the car when new in the photos. They were last tabbed in 1984 by Mr. Warren. The Chrysler will come to the new buyer with Washington historic plates so that it can be driven while re-licensing in it's new home state. Really, the pics do tell this car’s story. The exterior is in remarkably nice, original condition. It has had one re-spray to the factory original color and the paint holds quite a shine. A quick glance shows all the glass is good with no cracks or chips. The power front driver’s seat works great. Turn the key; allow just a few seconds for turn-over and the bullet-proof V-8 engine starts immediately, even when cold. Once you figure out the unusual push button dash/parking brake system, the automatic transmission shifts through all the gears just fine with no slippage, hesitation or roughness. Both the power steering and power brakes also work great. Rust? Please, this Chrysler HATES body rust and you’ll be hard pressed to find anything here to worry about (look at my shots of the underside). Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are rarely ever salted. At most we’ll only have one or two days of light snow each year and then everyone panics and just stays home. Climb over, under and throughout this car - you’ll come up smiling as long-term indoor storage and factory undercoating have kept it quite solid. I doubt the rig has ever seen many winter roads anyway. The exhaust system was redone from front to back two years ago with 2-1/4 inch aluminum tubing and Flowmaster-style mufflers. You’ll love the throaty, deep burble it puts out and now the engine can really breathe! Please look again at the interior pictures. You’ll find very decent, original leather upholstery front and back. There is a small bit of cracking from dryness, but no real wear. It should continue to be good for years if kept fed with a good leather conditioner. The original carpets are still in place, fairly sound and recently re-dyed. I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges, too. They seem as clear and bright as the day this rig left the Michigan plant 48 years ago! The radio and the temperature control system function as they should, though a new antenna is needed. The headliner is intact and just fine. Some of the interior trim could stand to be rechromed if cosmetics are really important to you. PLEASE BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a very nice car from a respected Ebay seller. I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that’s the main goal! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or you’re required to spend a small amount on some unforeseen problem! No vintage used vehicle is ever perfect. Note: We will NEVER, EVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law). Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions or ANY negative feedback call or email before placing a bid. If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. My name is MARK THOMPSON. TERMS OF SALE: You’re encouraged to check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! Come by, check over and drive the Chrysler while it’s being stored at my Auburn, WA warehouse. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally, we reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed upon. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction’s end if you’re the winning bidder. The remaining balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Remember, you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You are not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the car later! You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com link below. The zip code for pick-up would be 98028 (Kent, WA) to get an instant on-line quote. The shipping of the “300” and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. Please be sure you inquire with your shipper for information regarding insurance coverage on the vehicles they transport. I’m always happy to store your purchase free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been made. A Few Additional Terms and Requirements: The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements and any sales tax in their state of residence. The Chrysler is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. All information described above is based on the observed condition when the listing was placed. I've done my very best to describe the vehicle as honestly as possible. Please don’t be upset if I miss minor flaws or some repair is needed. No used vehicle is ever perfect and you’re encouraged to inspect before bidding. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese? On Oct-24-12 at 19:55:48 PDT, seller added the following information: Looks like the reserve has been met and the car will go to a new home! I rode today for the first time as a passenger in the Chrysler with an inspection service tech that came by to check it over for an out-of-state bidder. It gave me a chance to think about how smooth this car handles and just how how much I'll miss it. I KNOW the new owner will REALLY like this car! I noticed also that I wrote the wrong zip code down above for transport arrangements. Please use 98002 (Auburn,Wa) as the pickup location. --Mark
