1959 FIAT 1200 Pininfarina TV Turismo Veloce (fast touring) in need of total restoration. Not a barn find but a backyard find. This car has been sitting in a backyard completely covered and wrapped in tarp for at least 30 years. Although a California car all its life, since right after birth, (born and manufactured in Italy) this FIAT is the confirmation that not all California cars are rust free. Purchased from "ITALIANO MOTORS in Burbank California in 1959 this Turismo Veloce still bears both front and back original California black plates or the plates that were assigned to this car in 1963. I am assuming that since this is a 1959 car originally should have had yellow and black plates although in 1963 California DMV required all pre 1963 plates to be changed to the new black & yellow format color. In any case the plates are digited on the old style pink slip (see picture on the scrolling bar above) California title which is clear and in hand, so car and black plates go together, the car can be re registered with those plates here in Califirnia without any further investigations from DMV. Some collectors or enthusiasts from California and not probably know what I am talking about. Before I enhance the qualities of this car let me be clear on one obvious point, this car HAS RUST. It has rust on the body on the hood, doors, trunk lid, floors but not of the frame. although the body is still holding on together the frame and the inner part of the car is solid. I took pictures with the wheels off and the inner parts of the wheelwells are all in solid condition. I am assuming that since it was covered in tarp, rust started to travel from the ouside and eventually would have moved in but (luckly) never got to that point. I personally hate rust with passion so I took several pictures of all the rusted parts I have detected on this FIAT. Left behind, forgotten in a backyard almost left there to perish of a rusty death, I took on this TV from a sad state and gave it a set a decent tubeless tires. I pulled the completely rotted out tube tires, cleaned out the inner rim of the wheels using a drill with a wire brush, put on extra tick valve stems and a set of tubeless 185/70/14 tires and the car stood back and its on feet and it rolls beautifully. Gave it a bath and washed away most of 30+ years of dust and grime. On a good note the 1221cc (74.51ci) 4 cylinders engine compartment looks very good and complete. Although I do not want to use the word "complete" for the rest of car, I can arguebly say that for the most, this FIAT looks complete with only a few pieces missing like trim and moldings. The convertible frame is all there and goes up and down with ease. The set of keys I was given opens the dorrs though i have had hard time with the ignition key. These old keys bend easily so I didn't try to force turning the ignition key with with fear it would break inside. I pulled the seats off which they were just sitting on the swivel mechanism in order to give it a better idea of the condition of the floor panels and the swivel mechanism itself. All 4 hub caps and center spinners are there. I secure them all with zip ties so they won't fall or get lost. This FIAT TV is located inside my warehouse in Gardena near the LAX Los Angeles airport. If the winner needs a little more time I would grant that although If not picked up by the time requested I'd have to charge $25 per week storage fee the following week after the 14 days grace period. This is primarily to encourage the buyer to have the car picked up as soon as possible or I would end up with my entire lot packed with vehicles. I know it sounds a bit harsh though I hope it makes a point.
