Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The year 1957 represented a significant time for the Mercury brand, it was the first year that the car was it’s own individual design in the FoMoCo line-up, and was no longer considered the “Junior Lincoln”. The Mercury advertising blitz laid out for 1957 centered around the moniker “Dream Car”, and all of the Mercury styles were larger, lower and only offered V8’s. This particular convertible has benefited from a 13-year, no-expense-spared, no-stone-unturned restoration performed by the owner, Bill, for his own personal use, who by-day manages the restorations on a well-known collection of Chryslers. My name is Dave, and I am hosting this auction on behalf of Bill for his beloved Mercury, and together we will respond to your information and photo requests immediately. This convertible started life as a Monterey, and Bill preferred the up-graded trim package of the Montclair which includes the gold scallops, the rocker and wheel arch chrome moldings and various interior trim pieces and ornamentation. The interior has been faithfully replicated using exact materials, piping, carpeting, welting, padding and assembly methods, in factory colors to showroom stock condition. All lights, gauges, and controls function perfectly and reliably. Bill located and installed N.O.S. door latches which latch perfectly with no bounce-back (as worn units are known for). The body was restored and painted in factory Wimbeldon White to show-car condition with no issues, chips or wear. All trim & emblems are either N.O.S., excellent original examples or have been re-chromed by the top chrome shop in Los Angeles. For safety and reliability, the brakes have been upgraded to disc, with all new hydraulic components, new suspension bushings & bearings, gas shocks and new Coker tires. The 390 Mercury engine is fully rebuilt with 2 BBL carburation, an alternator, new water pump, and new fuel pump (without the vacuum module for the wipers). The wipers were upgraded to the 1958 Edsel style with electric motor. The original radiator was re-cored and all hoses and external engine parts are new and fully detailed to show condition. The Merc-O-Matic transmission has been modified from 2-speed to 3-speed. The power steering, power brakes, power top and 4-way power seats all work perfectly. A modest reserve is set at just the cost of the restoration, which is the price for an average Monterey convertible. Montclair’s are slightly more rare and have a 15% increase in value over Monterey’s, but Bill is not looking for Montclair money for his car, and the new owner will have the increased benefit and joy associated with the higher line of trim. If the reserve is not met at the end of the auction, Bill will seriously consider selling the car for the high bid. The car is available for inspection during the auction, contact me and I will arrange for you to see the car with Bill in Thousand Oaks, CA. Here is the good part….if you are the high bidder, and you inspect the car after the end of the auction and you are not happy for any reason we will simply go to the next highest bidder, No negative feedback, No non-refundable deposit, No bad vibes. We want to find someone who is truly thrilled to own this convertible, and will enjoy the miles of smiles that ownership will bring. So please Bid With Confidence and thank you for your interest. On Oct-08-12 at 07:37:20 PDT, seller added the following information:I now have several photos of the convertible top in the UP position, please email me and i will send them to you. The top is brand new, the rear plastic window has the wrap-around design and can be zipped-down. All weather stripping is new, at a cost of over $400 alone. The headliner is black (was available in black or tan originally) and compliments the black, red and white interior nicely. thank you! ~Dave
