Vehicle Detail

2002 Volkswagen Passat GLX, 128,300 miles, tan leather, very clean! I found this car at a dealer auction, a friend of mine is a dealer and lets me buy some cars occasionally. It does have a rebuilt title. I spoke with the dealer and they said it was trade in, they did not know anything about what the previous damage was. There has been paint work on the passenger rear door and quarter panel but other than that I can't see any evidence of accident damage. Rebuilt title could be most anything. I have been playing with cars from restoring old cars to repairing new ones so I have a pretty good eye and from what I can tell this car has never been in a severe accident. The thing to remember with older cars is that it takes very little damage to total a car. When I got this car it had the typical ABS problem so I had the ABS module rebuilt, it also needed the timing belt and serpentine belt replaced so I did these as well. I am sure this is why this car ended up at auction instead of the dealers lot, when I first saw this car at auction I was surprised. It appeared very clean and nice! Then I realized what it needed mechanically, for a dealer to repair all these little things it could have cost a couple thousand dollars so it is easier for them to wholesale it off. Long story short here it is, a very clean 2002 Passat with a new timing belt, new serpentine belt, nearly new tires, rebuilt ABS module. The air conditioning works great, the paint looks great (there are a couple little chips and scratches but nothing unusual for a 10 year old car) I just drove about 500 miles in it and got about 28 mpg on the highway. There is a belt whine from the either the new timing belt or serpentine belt, I replaced both tensioners so it is not those. I did a bit of web browsing and found a few threads on new timing belts being noisy like this one, might just need to be broken in, one thread mentioned it had something to do with new materials being used in the belts that made them noisy? Don't know but at idle it is noticeable, on the highway it is quiet so I wouldn't worry about it. One of my favorite things about these cars is the fold down rear seats, gives it a really great cargo capacity! I am getting a new windshield installed this week. The car also has all the options, sunroof, heated seats everything I have tried seems to work the way it should. If you have any questions feel free to ask
