This is a 1986 Land Rover Defender 90 it is listed as a 1980 as Ebay does not recognize the UK VIN #. It is an ex British Military vehicle that has been released from service in the UK. We selected the vehicle for export to the US because of it's age and condition, also it is a rare LHD, it was built that way for service in a foreign theater rather than service in the UK. More than likely it served in British Forces Germany. The process we go through to get these vehicles is detailed in order to get them here legally, and so they can be registered for use on the highways in the US. All of the vehicles are 25 years old, LHD and in the best condition available. Once selected we service the engines and clean the frame completely, we repair any mechanical issues required for inspection and MOT (Ministry of Transport inspection needed to obtain the title), the kind of repairs we find include wheel bearings, ball joints etc, once inspected we coat the underside with Waxoyl, which is a protective coating. The mileage listed at 91K is a calculation, the clock is in Kilometers and shows 145K and there are 1.6 Kilometers to the mile. With the MOT and with the new civilian title, we prep the vehicle for painting, we do not use filler, if the panel is damaged we get a better used one. We remove the spare wheel and relocate it in the back on the soft top. Over time the wheel crushes the hood. The wheels on this vehicle are new (the tires are not), the black steel look enhances the black checker plate and looks great. This particular vehicle had new paint inside and out and looks great. We added a new carpet in the front and new seats front and back, with a central cubby box in the front also. We removed all of the military antenna brackets and covered them with new checker plate. The engine is a standard diesel 2.5 L 4 cylinder, with 4X4 high and low box transmission. It will ride at 70 MPH on the freeway and low box 4 wheel drive will go anywhere. these vehicles are meant to be driven off road. There is no power steering or AC. Finally we transport them in a container by sea, this vehicle came in two weeks ago, all the import documentation and EPA inspections are completed and all import duties paid. All you have to do is produce the Bill of Sale and copy of insurance to get a temporary tag and apply for registration. We drove this vehicle from Houston to Dallas last week with no issues it ran at 70 MPH for the 6 hour drive in 104 degree heat. They are older vehicles and we cannot tell what if any problems might occur, but the parts are readily available on the internet. The vehicle is in North Dallas at our home and available for inspection by appointment, if you are out of town fly in and drive it home.
