Vehicle Detail
1977 Mercedes Benz 280 CE Coupe VIN: 12305312000574 Here’s another rare, clean & original Mercedes we acquired recently for our super Ebay customers. Based on the great overall condition it’s very obvious the car has received care and respect over its life having been with its previous owner for over 17 years. You’re welcome and encouraged to stop by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect this coupe before bidding, look through the folder of receipts going back over 25 years and take a test drive. Please call me with any questions or to set a meeting time. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is (206) 914-1173. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever driven one of these classic Mercedes Coupes with the powerful 2.8 liter inline six engine? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. Comfort, style, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. I’ve always considered these cars constructed during the 70’s through the mid-80’s as the last of truly high-quality, hand-built Benz and have heard many others say the same thing! Take a look at my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. “Time capsule” really is a good way to describe this car. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall condition is superior to most any other thirty-five-year-old vehicle you’re likely to come across here in the Ebay marketplace. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Mercedes hates rust. Yes, our Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never, ever salted. We only ever have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and just stays home! The original owner legally imported the car directly from Germany more than thirty years ago. It still retains the (very rare) headlamps and shorter bumpers of European models and therefore has the sleek look that Daimler designers intended for these cruisers. Hop in; turn the ignition for a few seconds and the engine comes to life almost immediately. The automatic transmission shifts like every other Mercedes from this era with that solid, reassuring bump between all the gears. Having personally owned more than twenty Benz models over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT VERY, VERY WELL. I’VE NEVER DRIVEN A W123 MODEL OF ANY VARIANT THAT I'VE LIKED BETTER AND AM CONVINCED YOU'LL BE PROUD TO OWN AND DRIVE IT! As a respected Ebay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers please bid with confidence knowing that this boulevard cruiser runs and drives as it should. CONDITION In total, this is a very clean, well cared for, absolutely smoke-free car. I take great pride in the vehicles sold here and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also a few things needing attention: All the glass is in great shape. The Mercedes idles, runs and drives well – immediate, strong oil pressure; strong battery and charging system; no observed overheating, brake pull or alignment issues! I’ve driven it hundreds of miles over the past three months, freeway cruising at 65 MPH and feel it runs out great. Would I drive the car cross-country tomorrow? Absolutely! As my un-retouched photos show, the paint is in very good overall condition and still holds a shine well as a quality re-spray was done some time in the past to the factory original color. Great chrome and exterior trim all around, too! The front fenders, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage appears in great condition for a three plus decade old rig! The wheels are all straight and true. Each is wrapped with high-end P195/70R14 Michelin X radials with very little wear. Please take another good look at the interior photos. The original headliner is in place and very solid. The leather upholstery is also original with the pictures giving a very accurate view of its great condition. Often, you’ll find sagging springs and disintegrating cushion material on vintage Mercedes seats. The only issue here is a seam split along one top edge of the rear bench. I’m sure the carpets here have always been protected with floor mats because they too are original, very clean and very decent (I’ll be sure and include the floor mats you see pictured). The dash gauges and exterior lights are all bright and true. My photo of the gauges shows an odometer reading of less than 71,250 miles. Both the speedometer and mileage counter function as they should. I’m always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (we’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a late summer road trip home the same day! Many of our vehicles have also gone to buyers in Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. I can help with transport arrangements for shipment to almost any part of the world as needed. Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, check over the Mercedes at my Auburn, WA location and take it for a test drive or send someone to inspect it. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, we reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer purchases on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Finally, I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to here before the end of the auction period. Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of Ebay rules and Federal Law)! Please feel free to contact me directly thru Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. I can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later – You or your representative are more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If the Mercedes is being shipped to its new home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We send out vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from Ebay’s endorsed transporter: Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). As an alternative I’d also solicit bids from the www.U-ship.com website, though lately our buyers have told me that these have been coming back higher than the DAS quotes. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, WA) to get an instant on-line quote. Transport of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Mercedes can be stored free of charge at our location for up to two weeks after the auction ends, assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is charged at $20 per day. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.5% sales tax, document, transfer and registration fees (you’ll pay any applicable tax to your own state when licensing there - we charge NO fees to non-residents). Because the Mercedes is advertised and for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese? On Sep-14-12 at 15:53:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Note to Bidders: I will be away from Sept. 18-29 and will not be available to meet with the winning bidder or transporter for delivery of the Mercedes on or between these dates (the car will be safely stored in our Auburn, WA warehouse). Please call me at (206)914-1173 if needed. All the best, Mark Thompson
