Vehicle Detail

1967 SAAB 96 Coupe 850cc Two Stroke Here for sale is my 67 SAAB 96 in relatively original condition. This is a low mileage, extremely well cared for clean example of the less common, 2 stroke version of SAAB's original car design. I am amazed at how original this car has managed to stay and it looks great right down to the original factory stickers on the rear windows and even the original dealership sticker on the trunk. It has an 850cc 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine with the triple carburetor - you mix the oil into the gas tank and go. Everything works and it drives very well! I have a later model v4 96 and I was surprised by how much different (and better in many ways) that the 2 stroke drives. It is so much fun - with a light feel; nimble and well balanced. Handling is excellent and you cannot help but grin as you listen to the growl and snort of the little engine. Condition: This is a running driving car. I have been driving it around town recently and feel comfortable with its mechanical condition. Everything feels tight and it should, the car only has 22,000 miles. I believe those to be original given its history and condition but I cannot know. The interior is all original and the seams have come undone, the original upholstery could probably be saved if it was stitched up again. The backseat has the original upholstery underneath of a cloth that was put over to hide the seams but it doesn't looks so great itself anymore. When I purchased the car, I pulled the engine, replaced the clutch and rebuilt the triple carburetors. I also rebuilt the brakes at the wheels. It could use a new master cylinder - the brake pedal fades if you stay on it but is tolerable still for driving. Transmission has redline MTL oil in it. The car is painted in the original, very 60's, color - a cheerful, light yellow. I think most of the paint may be original but several panels appear to have been repainted years ago. I took closeup photos of the 2 panels and the worst paint spots which are mostly on the passenger side. Paint is not show worthy but looks clean and nice for a driver. All the original stickers as from the factory are on the car and in good condition. The glove-box contains owners manual and some driving records. All the stainless trimming like the bumpers, whisker, emblems, etc are in excellent condition History: I have been into vintage SAAB since I got a 1971 model 96 about 6 years ago. I have been driving that car daily for nearly 2 years now. The car in this auction was sold new here in Walla Walla by the local foreign car dealership. After the dealership closed, the parts-man and son of the owner started collecting back what started to become the orphan cars to save them from disappearing. Early Datsun, SAAB, Fiat, Subaru and many others including DKW, Hudson and Studebaker. He purchased this particular car back sometime around 1980 still in excellent condition. It became his favorite car and he kept driving it frequently around town although never far or hard. I bought it earlier this year from his son and as far as I know, I am only the 3rd owner. To the buyer of this car I will offer the chance to purchase separately a large collection of 2 stroke spare parts including engines, NOS engine parts, 2 parts cars and tons of NOS and used small spare parts. I enjoy the car but I have to many as it is. I mainly had bought it to try the experience for a while and then make sure it would go to a good home. I am selling some of my collection to raise money for a project I want to start in Africa. Car is not currently registered and doesn't come with plates. Included with the car is a factory service manual, the original owners manual, 2 stroke oil and a box of spare parts (water pump, distributor cap, etc). On Sep-05-12 at 14:41:22 PDT, seller added the following information: I would like to add some more detail as several people have asked. There is no rust on the car anywhere that I have found. This is one of the blessings of the car having always been in the high desert of Eastern Washington, it is pretty dry. The underside has all the original undercoating in good condition and there are no dents or scrapes underneath that I can see. Rocker panels, fenders and all the usual suspects are free of rust and there are no bubbles under the paint. On Sep-05-12 at 20:43:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is another update. Someone asked me about rust in a very hard to see spot where the firewall meets the floor pan of the engine compartment. I inspected that area tonight and took photos. There is no rust in this area at all. I noticed that some of the photos I posted did not make it into the auction. Apparently ebay limits to 24 photos. I have some closeup photos showing a few flawed areas of the paint. If anyone would like to see these photos please feel free to message me your email address and I will send them to you.
