Vehicle Detail
This is a 1970 light ivory 911T 2.2. This car was off the road for about 4 years, before I purchased the car in June of this year. The car was not running, and the owner did not want to spend the money to get it running. He just wanted to sell it. After I inspected the car, I purchased it and began the process of getting the car road worthy. The good: - The car is now running and driving, and I have put about 700 miles on it in the past 6 weeks. If you were at Irvine's Cars & Coffee on August 11th, then you may have seen this car there. -This car has California blue plates. (I have both the plates). I think the plates are from about 1974, and based on the condition of the car, I believe that the car has been in California since that time. - The underside of the car is in great condition. No rust underneath. I had the car up on a lift, and looked it over thoroughly before I purchased it. My mechanic looked it over too, and was amazed at the underside condition. Just great. - The only rust I've found, is under the headlights, and inside the headlight buckets themselves. I can see that the headlight gaskets wore away, and water became trapped. The lights are in place, and work fine.... this area is an easy repair if you wanted to do it. - When the car was repainted at some point, the door jambs and hood and trunk areas were not repainted...those areas are still the original light ivory paint. - Transmission is 911/01, where first is towards the driver, and down, with reverse towards the driver and up. 5-speed - engine # 6108727...2.2 motor. According the the Red Book, this motor is a 1970 motor (correct year for the car) but the number indicates the motor is for and "E" car..not a "T" car. I have sent away for the C-of-A from Porsche. The Certificate will go with the car. - This car seems very original... looks like original interior, original carpet (frayed in places), original steering wheel, original visors, original seatbelts, original radio (not working...but I'm sure it's fixable.) Window glass all looks original as well.... the car is all there.... dome-lights work...foglights work.... - I can see no indication of any accidents. - Several of the Orange County Cars & Coffee Porsche regulars looked the car over thoroughly a couple of weeks ago and consensus was that the car was a good, honest car, in excellent shape for an unrestored car. I had a "for sale" in the window, and a few people were interested, but no one followed up.... I'm a bit surprised. - Here is what has been done to the car in the past 2 months to get the car road worthy. (all work done at a local Porsche shop with over 20 years in the business, and the same guy who works on my other Porsche). Gas tank removed, cleaned, and relined....alternator replaced....engine tune-up (including valve adjustment)....all fluids changed....brakes blead (good brakes with stainless lines)....two new batteries.... A/C compressor was not connected, so I removed it, but it is included as part of the sale..... Purchased four new tires and changed the 14" Fuchs to 15". The 14" wheels are chrome, and badly pitted so I changed them. The 14" wheels are also included as part of the sale in addition to the 15" Fuchs that are currently on the car. Once running, it was clear the transmission had issues....sychros for sure. I purchased a used transmission from a guy who rebuilds Porsche transmissions, and the replacement transmission is in the car, and working fine.... I drive the car almost daily. The original transmission is also included in the sale...so you have a spare that needs rebuilding. At the time of this writing, the car is at an alignment shop getting a full alignment, ride height adjustment, and corner-balancing. Ok, The Bad... (Not a big list) - rust behind, and under, the headlights. - radio not working. - clock not working. - door pockets need work. - mileage is unknown...and I have no documentation prior to my purchase in June 2012. All receipts I have for what I've done to the car will go with the car. - crack in the dash. - I think the speedometer needs work... it works fine, but it makes a noise...and a couple weeks ago, when I was driving, the car was flipping from 58,999 miles to 59,000 it flipped over to 69,000 instead... woops! - drips oil...magnesium 2.2 - zenith carbs might need a rebuild.... It drives ok, but I think after sitting for so long, they could use work to make the car run even better. - tear in the headliner. - tear in the driver's seat...taped over right now. - dent in front valance..someone tapped the valance at the driver's side foglight...broke the lense and bent the light bracket. I replaced the lense and the light works fine..bracket and valance still a little bent...you have to look hard to see it. - the paint is poor. The car was repainted at some point in it's life, and the quality isn't good. Paint flaws in white don't show up well in pictures, but assume that all panels have paint chips, and scrapes. the hood is probably the worst...lots of paint chips. Not many dents...this car is surprisingly straight... - replacement transmission works fine...sometimes stiff in 1st gear, but that might be just because I'm not used to this transmission...my other car is the 915 transmission. - this is not a perfect car.... it is a car that came out of storage, and is now running and driving. Like I said, I have put a few hundred miles on the car in the past two months...I've been driving it to work, and driving it around town to run errands, and the trip to Irvine's Cars & Coffee is 45 miles each way... no problem at all... done it a couple of times. I think that's the important details... I have already paid the $110 and sent away for the Porsche CofA and it's included in the sale of the car. Youtube video of the car running... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mti8PNNQq2M I have represented the car as straight-forward and honest as I can. I believe this car is a great, largely original car, that you just don't see very often. I bought it for the fun of the project, but I don't have enough parking to keep it, and now that I've sunk money into it to get it going, it's time for someone else to have this car, and decide its future....drive it like it is....slowly restore it, or do a full resto on a nice car. If you have questions.... drop me a note. Yes, the prices on early 911 cars have been increasing for a few years now.... but no, I'm not setting my reserve in the stratosphere... I want the car to sell... that means that I've set my reserve at a price that makes this car a great value for someone. If you've read this far, then you're probably a porschefile, like me, and you know that the buy-it-now price on this car, is a good price... it could take a really long time to find another one like this for that price. Aside from the condition of the car, it comes with a 2nd set of wheels, and a spare transmission. I can only offer the car for the Buy-it-now price because I got the car for a good price, and I can recoup my money and still offer a great value. I reserve the right to sell the car, outside of ebay, at anytime........just being up front. I can take photos of just about any part of the car you want to see. Money... I'll take cash, a bank check, cashier's check, or even a personal check... but the car won't go anywhere until my bank says the funds are 100% clear. If you have questions, feel free to drop me a note.
