Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this clean original 1966 Mustang 2-door coupe. It is completely original - un-restored & unmolested with original paint, interior and drive train! Some may call it a "barn-find", but it's really just a garage find. ONLY TWO (2) owners before me from new! Original BLACK/YELLOW California plates, garaged its whole life. A beautiful survivor car, this is the way you want to find them, folks! SUPER DRY, SUPER STRAIGHT AND ROT FREE!! Please see my large, clear photos including the underside while on a lift. This running, driving, cream-puff of a car has spent its entire life in temperate Southern California. It was purchased new in Pasadena CA (yes! the proverbial little old lady from Pasadena). She was a hair stylist who drove the car 2 minutes to work everyday until the early 80s when she sold it to another hairdresser who did the same. The second, my friend Cindy, owned the car until she retired and I bought it for my wife last year. Cindy's husband is a very old-school world class machinist (and vintage Lincoln expert) and the car was kept in great running condition. It runs and drives very strong, and the 200 six cylinder keeps up great on the freeway! It's not the anemic six from the Falcons I remember, this thing gets up and goes.. if I didn't know better I would think it's the V8! Nice power steering and brakes for the little lady, and a smooth, quiet automatic trans that will get her there too. Also, very nice for a college student or someone who just wants a beautiful vintage, iconic ride that gets killer gas mileage, (the little six only sips gas!) The Mustang (we call her Sally) wears her factory original Wimbeldon white exterior paint, and original red/maroon interior, a beautiful combination. Rust free, original paint survivor cars are getting harder and harder to find, and going up in value all the time. Add to that a solid, accident-free car that has been continuously registered in California since new, and you have a desirable little cruiser for weekend fun or commuting. We have owned the car a year, and my wife got a new job and we have to move - sadly we cannot take the car with us. It's just a killer, clean original California car in great driver condition. It has been well loved, you can see the paint is rubbed thin on the driver's side roof, but it's a testament to how it has been kept extremely clean this last 46 years, the paint is still glossy! Seats and dash are original., carpet is fresh with correct low-pile loop & color, and look at those door panels... Su-weet! I love the original "spinner" deluxe hubcaps on it... looks like a real-life HotWheels car! One very small puncture in the headliner and likely a small crack in the dash pad, but overall just a clean, straight, original car. Cardboard luggage tray below back window needs replacing, but beautiful repros are readily available for cheap. I am not a vintage car or Mustang expert, just a private guy who loves good, clean, dry original cars from my childhood. Mileage shows 41,809 and could be original but I don't know for sure, it could have turned over. Either way they are all original to the car. The chrome is original and very presentable, it is obvious this car was well loved and taken car of. The car even retains its original tartan pattern trunk mat! Current servicing includes: transmission rebuild just before we got the car, electronic ignition (added in ‘09), and recently rebuilt carburetor. The motor runs cool and strong. I cannot find any evidence of accidents, major repairs, damage or corrosion - just look at those ruler-straight rocker panels and floor pans underneath!! And not a speck of rot or heavy rust anywhere. Registered in California until March of 2013, this is a turn-key driver. The glass is all original and in fine shape all around, sides go up and down easily. At least two tires are worn, and will need replacing soon, but not much to tell you other than that. Please look over all the photos carefully, and please e-mail with questions before bidding. All bids are taken seriously and are an agreement to purchase the car at the closing price. UN-RESTORED ORIGINAL PAINT BLACK PLATE CALIFORNIA SURVIVOR CARS ARE DISAPPEARING AT AN ALARMING RATE - REMEMBER, IT'S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE!! THANKS FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK! On Aug-15-12 at 20:03:34 PDT, seller added the following information: DEAR BIDDERS: I am unable to add photos of the data plate because I have posted my maximum number of photos, but I assure you all this car is right as rain. It retains its original data plate on the driver's door jam and the VIN numbers stamped under the hood match the data tag "warranty number" which also matches the VIN on the California title. Here is the data tag information: Body: 65A, Color: M, Trim: 25, Date: 20G, DSO: 71, Axle: 2, Trans: 6. The car was assembled in San Jose, CA dated July 20, 1966. This may explain the "7/19/66" that someone painted on the left firewall below the shock tower. I decoded the data tag online and it looks like this was unit #235,189 produced to that point at the San Jose plant; all the other codes on the data plate bear out on the car as well. I may not be able to get actual photos of the data plate or VIN on the inside fender until after the auction, but I guarantee the car is bona-fide and correct down the line, and the original, undisturbed data plate is in it's proper position. Thank you, and good luck! NO RESERVE - HIGH BIDDER WINS!!
