Vehicle Detail
This 2011 Saab 9-3 Turbo was purchased by us in late February. It has less than 6000 miles on it, 2000 of which were a road trip from St. Louis to Houston. The sticker price on this car was over $32,000. We are Saab enthusiasts and are very meticulous with our cars. We still have the 2001 9-5 Aero that we purchased new in 2001 and it still looks like new. While we babied this 9-3 and parked it in the "back forty" in parking lots to avoid parking lot dings, this Saab had a bad day on April 28. It was parked at the Galleria Mall in St. Louis when a strong and unpredicted storm came through. The tornado warnings were issued and shoppers trapped in the Mall. The storm then brought hail...really big hail...so big you could not rescue your brand new car or you would get pummeled by giant, frozen BASEBALLS! Many cars were damaged in the parking lot including one very new Saab. The car was parked next to a small tree in the parking lot which protected the driver's side from damage. Although there was no glass breakage the frozen baseballs damaged the roof, hood, trunk lid, right doors and quarter panel. I counted approximately 30 dents in the hood, 50 dents in the roof, 12 in the trunk lid, 8 in the rear quarter panel and the area over the doors, 3 in the rear door, and 1 in the passenger door. There is NO damage at all on the driver's side of the car. The estimate that was done on the car included paintless dent repair on the bulk of the dents but due to the newness of the car they planned to replace the roof and the hood. We bought a new car that we wanted to keep pristine. I am not sure that it will ever be repaired to suit our needs and we don't want to deal with trying to get a body shop to acheive the perfection that we would expect out of a car that is only 3 months old. For this reason we have decided to sell the car to someone who could repair it and save lots of money and have a great car. It has a transferrable warranty that was recommended by our Saab dealer for worry free driving. If I were purchasing a car like this I would NOT replace the roof panel and maybe not even the hood. I would not introduce the potential wondshield leaks or rear window leaks that could happen when replacing the roof. I would have the hood and roof repaired and have paintless dent removal done an the rest. If you have a friend or a relative with a body shop that you could trust you could have these repairs done reasonably. The car has no marks on the Carfax as a result of this and will be a sound investment at this price! Please feel free to contact us for any additional information. Also note that we are still driving the car to work a few days a week so it may have about 6000 miles on it by the end of the auction. If you would like to fly in to St. Louis we would be happy to pick you up at the airport so you could drive your new car home. Thanks and good luck bidding!
