Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1972 Ford LTD Brougham 2DR hardtop for sale. Believe it or not, I have almost $10K invested in this car with receipts to prove it because I had planned to keep it and spared no expense in gradually fixing it up. I now find that I have to sell it regrettably and I know I will only recover a fraction of what I have spent. I have a Deluxe Marti report showing this to be 1 of only 112 cars built with these option codes. The car was sold new in Madison, NE and remained in the same family since new. I purchased it from the son of the original owner seven years ago. It is equipped with some unusual options including air conditioning, tilt steering, and cruise control. Virtually every mechanical component on this car has been gone through and restored or replaced. I had the original 400 2bbl engine rebuilt about two years ago and have only put about 2000 miles on it since. The 2 bbl carb and intake was removed and replaced with an Edelbrock 4 bbl intake and carb and painted to look original and stock. There is also a Pertronix electronic ignition system installed for reliability. The heads were rebuilt with hardened valve seats and stainless steel valves for use with unleaded gasoline and a high flow oil pump and double roller timing chain was also installed. A slightly larger cam with higher lift and longer duration was also used. The air cleaner cover has a 429 ci decal on it but it really is a 408 ci after the overbore work. A new original style radiator was added as well and a new voltage regulator, starter solenoid, and battery. All parts used were either reproduction or NOS Ford Motorcraft parts including new fuel pump, alternator, starter and PS pump. The C6 transmission has been rebuilt and shifts smoothly through all the gears. The entire braking system was replaced including new master cylinder, new rotors and pads as well as new drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders and stops on a dime now. The car was always taken care of by the original family and the interior is all original and in beautiful condition. I did put in a new carpet and upgraded the original AM/FM 8 Track stereo with a new iPod input and hidden Alpine amplifier and I also added aftermarket Rockford Fosgate speakers hidden behind the factory grilles. The entire system looks factory stock until you turn it on or plug in your iPod and hear the sound or you can play an old 8 Track and hear it loud and clear. The A/C blows ice cold and has been converted to R134A refrigerant and the cruise controls works although it is finicky below 40 mph. The headliner and seats are in great condition with no tears, wear marks or fading and the original dash is perfect with no cracks or discoloration as is the original deluxe door panels and trim. I also installed a set of Mustang Mach I floor mats that are not so easy to find for some reason. Everything is finished on this car except the paint. It still has its original ginger glow metallic paint and it is faded and worn but looks good from 10 feet. There are the usual parking lot dents here and there and two rust holes behind the rear wheels about the size of a quarter. There is also some surface rust on the quarters but it is only surface. Everything else on the car including floors, rockers, trunk and rear window are clean and rust free. The vinyl top is in excellent condition with no tears or rust bubbles and looks great. All the trim is in nice condition and is not dented up. I removed the washboard trim and completely sandblasted and repainted it in the correct Ford colors and I also have several spare pieces as well that go with the car. All electrics have been gone through and work perfectly and the trunk has been carpeted in original material. The original spare tire is still present as well as the jack and accessories. I also added $1,500 worth of new Magnum 500 wheels with original Ford center caps and new BF Goodrich Radial TA tires with less than 800 miles on them. All this car needs is about $3K worth of body and paint and it will look like new again. Mechanically it is perfectly reliable and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country. I have put a lot of meticulous work into this car and had really planned to keep it for good but now find that I must sell it. The winner will get a great car for a fraction of what it would cost you to have the work done yourself. You could either drive it as is and it still looks great or finish the paint and have a nice show car. Please email me with any questions. On Jul-28-12 at 10:20:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that I have also replaced all the weather seals around the doors, windows, trunk, etc. as well as the rubber body plugs, lines, hoses and the wiper blades. Virtually every rubber part has been replaced with new reproductions parts. I also put a new PPG windshield in about 6 months ago and changed all the light bulbs on the car for reliability. As I said, I have meticulously gone through this car since I had not planned to sell it. I only hope it goes to a good home where it is appreciated as much I I have enjoyed it.
