Vehicle Detail

I bought this truck with the intention of removing the cab and placing it on a modern dually chassis. If I do that, the Studebaker chassis and driveline will be for sale. Before removing the cab and parting the rest out, I wanted to see if someone would like it as a complete unit to restore or drive as is. It's for sale locally, so I retain the right to cancel this auction at any time. THIS OLD STUDEBAKER WOULD MAKE A GREAT STAKEBED OR CAR HAULER! I recently acquired this great old Studie truck from the granddaughter of the man who bought it new in 1946. When her grandfather died in 1992, she and her husband drove out to Colorado and trailered it back to Minnesota. They gave the faded cab a fresh coat of paint at that time and used the truck around their place here in rural Minnesota. It spent most of the past 20 years parked in an open pole shed, but driven and used every summer. They did let the truck get caught in the rain a few times with a load in the bed, so the wood has rotted in some places. They told me the hydraulic hoist works great, and they started the truck so I could hear it run. It sounded strong to me, with no unusual noises, but I make no mechanical guarantees whatsoever. This truck has 50,794 original miles. I have no key for it. Apparently when the old man died they couldn't find the key so they wired in a simple on/off toggle switch in its place. The starter is activated by a pressure switch when you step the clutch all the way to the floor. Mechanically, this truck has the original bone stock 6 cylinder driveline. I know the engine is not stuck because as I said earlier, I've heard it run. I don't know if it uses oil, smokes under load, etc. They told me it drives fine and I don't know why it wouldn't. The tires look fairly decent but if you intend to leave this truck in a stock configuration they should all be replaced. They are 7:00X20 and they've been on the truck a long time. Same thing with brakes and other mechanical systems. I wouldn't drive this rig around the block without first rebuilding the wheel cylinders and master cylinder and inspecting all brake components, fan belt and hoses. All of the glass in the truck is good except the driver's door, which has a couple big cracks running through it. SOMETHING GOOD - I've always loved this Studebaker truck cab style, and this one is without a doubt in the nicest condition I've ever seen. This cab is the same as a pickup cab except the fenders have 2" spacers to widen the stance and the opening for the tire is larger than the one on a pickup fender. The beautiful grille is absolutely perfect. I don't recall ever seeing another one that didn't need straightening. Notice there is no sag in either door handle, and both doors can be pushed shut with a click, using one finger! The front bumper, headlight rings and other plated parts retain the original chrome plating. The floor is nice and clean with no rust through. The dark colored, wrinkled looking stuff which is coming off the floor in places is some kind of sound deadening material. The floor is pristine wherever this stuff comes off. . SOMETHING NOT SO GOOD - The worst thing I can say about this truck is that the former owner did not take precautions to keep mice out, and the nasty little critters used a bunch of cotton out of the seat cushions to make nests inside the truck. I've removed all the mouse nests and sprinkled mothballs around inside to keep them away. The seat will need to be redone and the truck will need a new cardboard headliner. The cardboard inside the glove compartment needs to be replaced. There are a few tiny bubbles in both cab corners (see photos), but no rust is coming through yet. The former owners also failed to lubricate the hood hinges and the one on the passenger side has a broken component. Luckily, the broken part is just a piece of flat stock with some bends in it, so it can be easily repaired or replaced. (See last two photos for detail). While I was photographing the truck I climbed up and checked out the top of the cab. Sure enough, there are some dents up on top, probably from the kids of the former owner. It would be easy enough to straighten out since the headliner needs to be replaced anyway. If you buy this truck please understand that it's not a turn-key deal. You will need a new 6 volt battery (there is no battery in the truck) and some basic mechanical ability. Please do not assume anything. If I've neglected to mention something important to you or if you have any questions please contact me. I encourage you or someone representing you to come and look at this nice truck in person before bidding. You may contact me through this auction with any questions. I will be happy to email you my phone number or if you prefer I can call you if you email me your number. I would be happy to accommodate any photo request, but please provide me with an email address to send them to. I don't think I can attach photos to the ebay anonymous messages. My zip code is 56347 for shipping calculation. I can assist your hauler with loading if necessary. $500 (nonrefundable) is due by paypal within 24 hours of auction end. Balance is payable in cash (no bank checks or money orders) at time of pick up. If you're not comfortable carrying cash you may send certified funds but they must clear (10 days minimum) before truck can be picked up, or you may do a bank transfer. Truck is to be picked up within 2 weeks of auction end unless other arrangements are made prior to auction ending. Delivery within a hundred miles or so might be possible at a reasonable cost. This vehicle has a clear Minnesota Certificate of Title and Minnesota Collector plates. It is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty of any kind expressed or implied. Your bid is your agreement to these terms. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU'RE NOT SERIOUS ABOUT OWNING THIS TRUCK. If you buy and don't pay you will be reported to ebay. Because of past unpleasant experiences, I do not sell outside the borders of the United States of America. No exceptions. On Aug-09-12 at 16:15:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I WILL NOT RELIST THIS TRUCK IF IT DOESN'T SELL THIS TIME, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY INTEREST IN OWNING IT, NOW'S THE TIME TO BID.
