Vehicle Detail
1977 Mercedes Benz 300D Diesel VIN: 12313012020367 All through 1976 Jessie Lee Key had felt it was time for a new car. Just before Christmas, on December 17th, she stopped by Ed Hicks Imports in Corpus Christi and drove home this classy mid-sized diesel as an early present to herself! She’d had her eye on it for some time and who couldn’t help themselves to something this nice and practical during the holiday season? Over the years the 300D was lovingly watched over by its caretakers and is now ready for a new owner to continue the tradition started by Ms. Key all those years ago. I’ll be sure and include all of her original books, manuals and case as pictured with the car. The 300D Diesel Mercedes sedan represents the zenith (and one of the last years) of the hand-built sedans that Daimler Benz began producing in the mid-fifties and exporting to the USA. The quality and detail of these classic four-doors, combined with the rugged durability of the 3.0 liter diesel drive train make them among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. This car came to us recently after spending much of its life driving our salt-free Pacific Northwest roads. With the cost of fuel increasing ever more rapidly these diesels make increasing sense to own with their legendary fuel economy and drive train longevity! My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. Please contact me anytime during this auction to make an offer or set an appointment time to inspect and test-drive this fine car while it’s kept at our Auburn, WA storage warehouse. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Great handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, these mid-size W123 Body style four doors are one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! “Time capsule” is a good adjective to use when describing this car. I know you’ll admire its overall provenance, obviously having been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall exterior condition is superior to most any other 30+ year old MB you're going to find. Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this car HATES rust and you won’t find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and just stays home. Based on the condition of the undercarriage and the body, I really don’t think this Benz has seen many snowy winter roads during its lifetime. Hop in, turn the key (let the glow plugs heat for seven or eight seconds) and the strong 3.0-liter diesel engine starts immediately – even when cold! The automatic transmission shifts as it should. Having owned many dozens of Daimler vehicles over the years I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience (my daily driver is a 2002 E320 Wagon with 285K miles). I KNOW you’ll be proud to own and drive this nice car! CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, cigarette smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: The car idles, runs and drives as I feel it should – immediate, strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, and no brake pull or alignment issues! Though we have only partial receipts to pass on to you the immediate past owner, Captain Wendall, specified that within the past 18 months the following has been done: rebuilt vacuum pump, new brakes, shocks, drive couplers, belts & filters and new injector nozzles installed. The timing chain and tensioner were replaced as was the thermostat. A front end alignment was done. Also, new door seals all around, new rear window seal, a new trunk seal and the body drains were cleared. When did you last find a car more than three decades old with good, original factory paint like this? With the exception of a few small chips/scratches and brush touch-up spots, you’d think it was far newer. As shown, all the chrome and exterior trim all is in above average condition as well. The entire undercarriage appears in great, solid shape and no rusted-out trunk! I’ve never encountered a Mercedes alloy wheel that wasn’t straight and true. Here, all four are wrapped with 195/75R14 Kumho radials. Each has at least 85-90% remaining tread. Take another good look at the interior pictures. The front buckets and rear bench seat are in fine condition with NO sagging springs or much wear to the Vinyl-Tex material. All the wood dash trim is solid with no delaminating. There are no cracks on the dash material. Usually, Mercedes factory radios are shot after just a few years (you’d think Daimler would install better quality units based on how well everything else works on their rigs). The original Becker “Europa ” stereo here really shocked me, it blasts tunes like a new radio! The only issues I’ve encountered after driving the car over the past several weeks are the climate control blows only on defrost and the far rear portion of the headliner, near the rear window is not attached. While the speedometer works fine, the odometer does not so actual miles are unknown. Please do BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice car from a respected Ebay seller. I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that’s the main goal! Don’t be upset if I do miss a minor flaw or you are required to spend a small amount on an unforeseen problem! No used car is ever perfect. Having said that, I have every confidence this vehicle could be driven cross-country tomorrow. We’re happy to work with any transporter you choose however, you’re welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Florida and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International a few miles away) and then begin a road trip the same day! C’mon, this is the perfect time of year for a road trip and you know you’ve just been looking for an excuse to get away!
