Vehicle Detail
This is "Sheila". Sheila has been my wife's car since December 4th of 2004 when she purchased it new. It has been religiously serviced by the Volkswagen dealer and I am told you can actually look up the service records online. (Not sure on that one.) There were 2 recalls early that were done by the dealer also. Sheila has been and I assume will continue to be a problem-free car. It runs and operates today as it did when we purchased the car. My wife never knew it was a diesel until after she drove it. She told me that she didn't want a loud, smelly diesel. After driving this car, she said I would have a hard time convincing her to buy a diesel!! Too funny. The relationship began there. She ABSOLUTELY loves this car. In fact, she is STILL driving this car as her NEW Passat sits in the garage. AND, I believe she will not drive her new car until Sheila has a new home. The car is not due for another service until 180,000 miles. Tires are probably good for another 10k or maybe before winter. The right front (currently) is a brand new Michelin to match the other three as she got a sidewall puncture that could not be repaired so we had to purchase a new tire and the others were still good. I believe the new tire has about 3000 miles on it currently. Negatives..............The interior paint is starting to come off of the console at the shifter.......nothing bad.......but it is starting. The door handles and leather covering of the steering wheel shows a little wear. The window "lockout" switch for the rear doesn't work, but our kids are older and it wasn't a problem for us..........I'm sure it is an easy fix. We had car seats in the rear for a period of time and you can still see where they sat on the leather (shadowing). I've never tried to scrub it out because it looks more like shading than anything and didn't bother us. REAL close inspection will find a few light scratches (nothing through the paint) and a few rock chips. A deer hit my wife about 100k miles ago........yes.........it hit HER. It ran into the front of the car and broke the grill. It was replaced. (Not really a negative, but it DID happen.) Positives other than it is an awesome car.................Her battery was STILL good, but I had the dealership replace it and the cables at last service just because it was old. At the end of last summer I had her hood repainted to get rid of the obligatory rock chips. It looks factory perfect. It has been garage kept its entire life. The car gets 40 mpg EASY. Better if you slow down, but it likes to cruise at 80 and 80% of the miles are interstate. These cars will easily go 300 to 500k miles as evidenced by others. One almost identical to this one sold for over $7k here a few months back. I am going to list the car on a VW website as well as locally and the first $7300 will take her home. For an 8 year old car it doesn't look a day over 4! Sheila has aged well! Good Luck and God Bless!!
