Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1981 Datsun 280ZSX Turbo with only 69K miles. I've had this car since 2006 and havn't driven the car much lately. It's been garage kept since I've had it with the intention to restore - didn't get around to it. It is a perfect candidate for a low cost restore. Currently, the car starts and drives good but the brakes and power steering are not good. The car can be driven - but not very far and not fast (the brakes stop the car but the pedal goes to the floor). The power steering works but is jerky and growls. After purchase, the buyer should consider driving to a local repair shop or bringing a car dolly to get the car to your home or preferred shop. See the following for the good and bad about the car: Exterior: the car body and doors has rust, ecspecially along the bottom (see photos). I have replaced the two front quarter panels but they should be painted along with the rest of the car. The chrome, rims and trim are all in good shape but could use a little rub out. All the glass, t-tops, etc. are in good shape. The T-tops have no leaks and the take-out/put-back seals and mechanisms work good. The cars undercarriage and floor boards are in OK condition - some surface rust but in sound condition. Interior: The headliner has peeled and needs replacement (see photo). The seats are worn but not torn. Overall, the interior is in good condition for a car this age. Their are no cracks on the dash (common for these cars). The factory radio has been replaced by an aftermarket CD player installed into a custon fitted adaptor - power antannae works fine. Mechanical problems: THE BAD: Needs a brake job; Power steering system needs work; The car has a battery drain - could be problem in the electrical system/alternator. The battery system charges/works fine with the car running - but if it sits the battery drains. I currently disconnect the battery after I run the car so it doesn't kill the battery. The A/C belt pulley (the tensioning adjustment pully) froze up and needs replacement (I have the removed belt and pulley). The A/C system worked fine before that. May need a tune-up. The tires are OK but need some air. THE GOOD: The motor, transmission, rear end and susupension are in good shape. The Turb booster (and turbo boost gauge) work great - the turbo still snaps your head back! I am selling this car as a no reserve auction so somebody is going to get a great deal on this very restorable classic sports car. It is a cash only sale and no delivery of the vehicle is offered. The vehicle is being sold as is and I have listed the vehicle condition and operation details to the best of my knowledge. i will try to answer any questions about the vehicle that you may have.
