Vehicle Detail

NOTE- The VIN is: AM33049A005616. By the mid eighties, it was hard to believe that multiple fuel crises and ever diminishing performance in cars seemed to be all we could imagine. The Maserati Quattroporte III, powered by a powerful 4,930cc 4-cam V-8 engine which produced nearly 300hp was but one of a trio of super fast sedans, the others being the Aston Martin Lagonda and the Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9. Together they were the fastest luxury 4-doors that had ever been built. Launched in 1979, the Maserati Quattroporte III was designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro and based on his 'Medici II' show car. the Quattroporte III, or as it was called at first, the '4-Porte', Italian for 'four-door' was created to be the ultimate 'businessman's express'. A fast, supremely comfortable car that didn't show it's flash on the outside, but inside and on the road, where it counted. This example was imported by a Californian and later sold to a major collector of Italian cars in New York. I purchased the Maserati from that collection when a number of the cars were offered for sale at a major collector car auction. Finished in 'Argento Metallizzato' (Metallic Silver) with 'Naturale' (natural) leather interior, it presents very well. It appears to have had one respray in the original color. The paint is in good condition, with a few small chips and scratches in areas, most of which can only be seen at close inspection. There are two areas of bubbling in the paint, each approximately the size of a dime. They are on the right rear lower quarter panel and in the lower part of right front door. The chrome trim is in good to very good condition, with some flaking of the secondary gray paint on the front grille, which also shows an approximately 1" dent on the left side. The interior is completely original and all the soft trim is in very good condition. There are no tears, rips or open seams on the seats, but a few scuffs, scratches and nicks can be seen throughout. As commonly occurs in these cars, the wood trim on the doors and dash face has bleached out with time. The veneer on the dash top is in good condition, showing some loss from an old windshield seal leak near the right hand corner. The instruments are all in working order, EXCEPT the odometer, which has a broken transition gear. I have been attempting to source this part through Maserati specialists, and will pass along to the new owner my research up to the date of sale. The switches for the power seats and windows are all functional, EXCEPT the front switch for the right rear window. The window will raise and lower on the rear switch. The central locking and trunk release is also in working order. The air conditioning is working, but does NOT blow cold. I have not had the system charged to check for any leaks. The heater works well. As the car was in a very large collection and used rather sparingly, I have had a good deal of mechanical work done in my ownership to sort out various use, or lack of use, related items. This work has included the following: -Oil Change / Tune up -Battery -Motor mounts -New fuel lines -Idler pulley & bearings -Water pump -Pinion seal -New steering rack & pinion -Rewire harness in instrument cluster -Shift shaft seal The engine runs well and pulls strongly, with very little smoke when cold and none once warm. The transmission shifts smoothly. The car steers well and stops in a straight line. To experience the power of this very large car is quite entertaining indeed and it also handles much more handily than would be imagined from looking its size. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have. This is a NO RESERVE auction, so the car will be sold to the highest bidder. It is also being advertised locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it is no longer available. I am a bit of an Italian car specialist, having owned dozens of Lancias, Alfas, Fiats and the odd Ferrari. There are a lot of really bad QPIII's out there. This is a good one, which could be a great one with some time and attention (and money, of course!) Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Buona Fortuna! On Jul-19-12 at 16:24:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Please note - for California buyers, the car will come with a Smog Check certificate, good for 90 days from 7/19/2012 Also note that as in all private sales, the car is being sold "AS-IS, Where is", with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied.
