Vehicle Detail
This Plymouth has long been in dry indoor storage before and since I bought it ten years ago. When I purchased the Plymouth, it had a damaged right front fender, right side of the the grille and bumper. It also has a dented deck lid. The front fender, gravel shield, grille and bumper have been replaced with good used parts, as seen in the photos below. The deck lid will straighten, but I have also acquired a good used deck lid, also pictured, that goes with the car. The top bows are in very good condition, but the canvas part of the top obviously is rotted and mostly gone. Typical of old Convertibles, there is rust in the floors. The worst of it is in the rear foot wells. There are a few rust holes in the trunk floor which will require repair , but the floor is usable. There is also rust through at the lower trunk opening "sill" and to the lower left and right of the trunk opening. The upper rocker panels, both sides, have evidence of rust and will require replacement. The engine is a standard Plymouth 217 six cylinder flathead. It does have a unique addition however. It has an Offenhauser aluminum two carb manifold, the only modification evident on the car. The transmission is a three speed manual shift that had been removed from the car by the prior owner for reasons unknown. the transmission and driveshaft are included with the car. Whether or not the engine is capable of running, I do not know. It does have a "Sears Allstate Rebuilt" tag attached to a head bolt, so it was overhauled at some point many years ago. Best to consider it a 'rebuildable core', and if it is any better than that, great, if not, no disappointment. The driver's side door suffered an impact, apparently while backing up, and it wrinkled a few inches of the trailing edge of the door. That area has been pulled back into place, restoring the ability of the door to latch, but will require more attention to be a finished repair. The door structure itself is in great shapee, it is the door skin in the immediate area of the impact that sustained the damage. A professional bodyman, or a capable amateur, will have no trouble finishing the repair. The photos of the underbody were taken utilizing a large mirror on a mechanic's "creeper" to get a view of the lower portions of the rocker panels and frame condition. Knowing how the underbody pics were taken may help decipher them. The frame is in excellent condition. I have a clear Illinois Title in my name that was issued to me when I bought the car in 2002. Paypal is acceptable only for the deposit, which is due within 48 hours of auction close. The balance of the purchase price is payable in Cash or by Bank Wire Transfer and is due no later than five days of auction close.
