Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is my 1984 VW Rabbit GTI. I used to have a rabbit diesel and while looking for parts for the diesel, found this car and just had to have it. I've owned it for 3 years and had plans of to bring it up to very nice standards, but over estimated my free time. So I decided to sell, even though every time I drive this car I second guess my decision as it is very fun to drive and still gets thumbs up from VW people. If you're familiar with these cars, you will know that they come from the factory with a close-ratio 5 speed transmission that makes them very quick due to the overall low gearing. This also made for high RPM's at freeway speeds. I wanted to drive this car as my daily driver, and I had a fresh Diesel 5-speed transmission so I swapped it out. This brought the rpms down to a decent range on the freeway and also brought the MPG up from mid 20's to 35mpg. It did slow the acceleration down just a bit, but this motor is still very strong. The car has 214,xxx miles on it and I know the head was rebuilt but not sure of the bottom end. I can tell you that it does not use one bit of oil and feels VERY strong for a 1.8 liter motor. It has a tri-Y header and a 2" techtonics exhaust system that has a nice sound without being obnoxious. While swapping out the trans, I also replaced the rear main seal, new clutch and pressure plate, new front axles and CV joints. Also new on this car are the front brake rotors and pads as well as the rear brakes and bearings. The car is lowered 40mm front and rear with aftermarket springs and struts. I have a thick file of receipts of new parts on this car. Including new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new timing belt (including idler pulley). I do have the orginal close ration 5-speed transmission that I pulled from this car and would sell for additional $100. This car is well maintained and is very reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it any where, with the one exception of the tires. They will need to replaced soon. Other issues... the hood is in primer and the rest of the car's paint is a 6 out of 10. There is a small dent in the rear hatch next to the latch button. I have a replacement hatch you could have with the car. The interior is decent for a 28 year old car. The back seat is nice, carpet is great, but the front drivers seat needs recovered. Also, the headliner card is there but it would need recovered as well. If this car had new tires and a fresh respray it would be a VW persons dream! Oh, almost forgot...with the exception of a couple rock chips, this car has no rust! The floor is solid top and bottom, the strut towers are perfect, rocker panels...all the usual spots are perfect! I know I am missing lots of things and this is my first time selling anything on Ebay, so if you have any questions just ask. As for shipping, I've never shipped a vehicle before and it would be up to the buyer to arrange and pay for shipping. On Jul-16-12 at 20:57:13 PDT, seller added the following information: A fellow Ebayer asked if this car has any electrical issues and if the steering it tight. I responded but failed to check the box so all could see so am now up dated my descripion. Other than the oil temp gauge which only works sporatically, (lose connection, but never dug into it) all other lights, switches, gauges, dome lights, heater fan, odometer, etc works perfectly. Even the rear hatch wiper and defrost work great! There is no radio in the car, but there's a block off plate to cover the radio hole so it doesn't look bad.it This car is no longer my daily driver since I bought a newer TDI, so it will sometimes sit for weeks without me starting it. But when I do get in, it always starts right up without any issues. The steering on this car is spot on! No slop at all! Handles like a slot car! The ride is a little stiff with the performance springs, and low profile tires, but corners are a blast!
