Vehicle Detail

This is my 1987 Toyota XTRA Cab, long bed (7-foot) pickup truck. I have owned the truck for about a year and a half, and it has been very reliable. It had only 98,000 original miles on it when I bought it. It now has 112,650 miles on it (as of 7/11/2012, it will go up some as I do drive it some during the week). If you're familiar at all with Toyota vehicles of this era, you will know that is very low mileage for a legendary Toyota 22R, chain driven engine. I had the valves adjusted and the timing set, and the valve cover gasket replaced by a very knowledgeable mechanic and he was amazed at how clean the top end of the engine was. He assured me this engine was just broken in good and has plenty of life left in it. The truck was purchased new in south Alabama and remained in the original family for most of its life. To my knowledge, I am the fourth owner. The truck has an automatic overdrive transmission, which I had serviced less than a year ago, and it shifts well. Recently, I had the drive-train evaluated, and I was told it would need two u-joints and the rear tail shaft seal replaced at some point. I was quoted $225 parts and labor for the repairs, by a very reputable shop locally that is known to be pricey. The truck's A/C system was converted to R-134a freon system before I bought it and works well except for on the most extreme hot days, temperatures in the 100 degree range. On those days, it would still knock the edge off. Otherwise, it cools really well on most days, and I live in a pretty hot climate here in Tennessee. Since I've had the truck, I've replaced the thermostat, upper radiator hose, plugs, had the valves adjusted, valve cover gasket replaced, had the valves adjusted, the timing set, carburetor adjusted, front brakes replaced, transmission fluid flushed and refilled, replaced the tail gate latch, replaced drivers door window gasket, had the fuel pump replaced, among other repairs. The previous owner had the radiator replaced. I have the original owners manual, jack, etc. and many service records for the vehicle. Mechanically, the truck runs strong and has plenty of pep in its step. I average 20- 23 mpg around town and have gotten as high as 28mpg on the highway in it. Cosmetically, the truck is in very original, unmolested condition. The paint is original and faded, with some surface rust (as seen in pictures), but is not rusted through anywhere that I am aware of. The body does have its fair share of minor dings and small dents. The interior, is likewise, very original, with factory AM/FM radio, original carpet and seats, and like the exterior, shows its age (see cracked dash in picture). But, with all that being said, this truck is a prime candidate for a restoration or customization job, and has plenty of life left in her. I've tried to be as forthright about the condition of this truck as I can, because I would want any potential buyers to know that this is not a perfect truck by any means, it is a 25-year-old, soon to be classic, no nonsense, pickup truck with loads of potential for the right buyer. I have a Chilton's manual for the truck as well, and a Toyota factory transmission pan gasket for future use. Contact me with any questions you might have, and thanks for looking. I have a brand new set of brake shoes for the rear brakes that I bought to put on the truck but never did. The ones on the truck still work but are beginning to squeal, some. Also, the tires are in need of replacement. The truck does not require additional oil between changes, and I change it about every 3000 to 3500 miles, but, with that being said, I do sometimes smell just a hint of what smells like oil burning off of an exhaust component, but I can't tell where it is coming from. I suspect it could be not an oil leak at all, but where the rear tail shaft seal is leaking at the transmission and burning off the exhaust, perhaps. ***** (I mentioned previously in my ad that a transmission shop recommended that seal and two u-joints be replaced at some point). Again, I just want to be as upfront and honest as I can about the condition of this truck, so I bring up these additional issues so that bidders have a better idea going into the auction what they might potentially inherit. But, again, like I said in my original ad: This is a 25-year-old truck, and even though it has very low mileage for the year model, things are going to wear out on it and need replacing or repairing. Now that the reserve has been met, I think those of you who are seriously interested in this truck will see that it is well worth the reserve price and then some. The very reputable mechanic I spoke of in the original ad who adjusted the valves, told me that the truck was easily worth $2500 to $3000, and that I would be foolish to sell it for less. But, my life's circumstances have changed, and I have to let it go, as much as I hate to see her go, she's such a fun little truck to drive. I sincerely hope that this truck will go onto someone who knows and appreciates older model Toyota trucks for all their strengths, and few weaknesses, and will take good care of her. And better yet, knows how to work on them. This is one of the last models that was simple and straightforward to work on for the mechanically inclined. Also, "this truck is being sold as is, where is, with no warranties, and with no returns. All sales are final" So, please bid with care and consideration beforehand. If you have any questions or doubts about anything, I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have. I appreciate all the interest my little "Yota" has received on eBay, we're both flattered! On Jul-14-12 at 09:39:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Side note: Now that a player who was placing bids under a semi-established user name, and one created mysteriously out of thin air the very same day he or she drove the bidding up high enough to see where my reserve was ... has coincidentally withdrew all of his or her bids under both user names --- ironically, within two minutes of each other, and one day after he or she placed bids erratically so as to discover what my reserve price was --- those of you who are serious, capable buyers are free to bid accordingly! Thanks to that individual for retracting his or her bid(s) --- you did us all a favor. Of course, I knew I was dealing with someone who was probably not legit when after wildly driving the bidding up to my reserve point, they contacted me through eBay asking if they could come pick up the vehicle now --- since they had met my reserve, despite the fact the auction wouldn't end for several more days at that point. Go figure! On Jul-16-12 at 18:32:31 PDT, seller added the following information: ***Since my little "Yota" pickup truck has had such a strong following on eBay, (over 1000 views and 51 watchers thus far with two days to go on the auction) I thought I would add a few additional photos (if eBay will allow me to this late in the auction) and give a few more details about this desirable little diamond in the rough. If I'm able to upload the additional pictures you'll get a sense of just how original this truck is. The paint is pretty faded and oxidized and what was a graphics package along the body sides are peeling pretty badly. Upon the front end of the hood you'll see where a graphics sticker has long since peeled off and has been replaced with a patch a surface rust over the years. Needless to say, 25 years in the hot Southern sun has taken its toll on the factory blue paint. But, with a little bit of bodywork and a new a paint job this truck would no doubt be a real head turner. The photos should detail the surface rust a little better, too. But like I said, I've not seen one place on the truck that is rusted through, which usually occurs on the bedsides of these year models, but not this one. The bed liner appears to be original, too. Like I said before, the carpets are pretty faded and tatty, too, but have preserved the vinyl matting beneath them pretty well. The headliner is in good shape. Also, you'll see an update on the odometer reading which hasn't changed much ... you'd still be hard pressed to find one of this genre with this low mileage. ***Once again, my little "Yota" thanks you for all your attention. To the individual who wants it the most, I'm sure you'll be just as happy with her as I have been ... she's been a real joy and I hate to see her go!
