Mechanical Reliability. A Great Car. Starts up Everytime and Runs Good. #8 Spark Plug has gunk on it, so chance the right cylinder head gasket needs to be replaced. Not sure, that’s my amateur mechanic analysis. I don’t know many cars, but over the years I have come to know this 78 450 very well. I’ve maintained this car myself. Honest Seller, You won’t get this kind of car for this little money. Loved this car for years and spent more money on it than the current market values it for. Shoot, the New Behr Radiator I installed last summer cost me $900, that’s almost ? of my initial price. Selling it because I’m moving and I need a modern car for my daily driver. No Reserve Highest Bidder New Paint Job and I think the the Soft-Top is good condition. A/C doesn’t work, I’ve never investigated. I feel confident you could drive this car anywhere in the US, but I don’t guarantee that. I could drive it anywhere, but I wouldn’t go more than a couple hundred miles before resolving the gunk on the #8 plug. If that was resolved, I would list it for $2K higher. If you’re local to Chicagoland, come by and have a look. Let me know if you have any questions. Buyer responsible for Shipping or Local Pickup. I live in northeast Indiana. You mentioned that the #8 spark plug is gunked up-- what type of oil do you use? Answer: In the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, 60657 zipcode. I use a Full Synthetic oil, and that's the only kind of oil I've used with the car. Also, there's no oil in the coolant so if it is head gasket, it's just starting to wear. Let me know you have any additional questions. Question 2: Hi, interesting theory of your mechanic. Did you do a compression test? Does the car overheat? is ther oil in the water, or water in the oil? does the engine start well and run round and quiet? How is the condition of transmission, brakes, tires etc? Answer: To clarify, it's not a theory of my ("your") mechanic. It's my own theory - I'm the amateur mechanic. I have not done a compression test and the car does not overheat. There was a problem with it getting too hot a couple years and so that's why I replaced the radiator last year (when I was planning on keeping the car). There is NO oil in the coolant or vice versa. Hence if it is the cylinder head gasket, then it's just starting to wear. I actually bought the head gasket as was going to replace it myself, but I just don't want take apart everything nor do I have the time. I like this car a lot, but I just need to move on. The engine starts each time. Since I don't drive the car regularly, I may need to charge the battery, but if the battery is charged up, boom, it will start every time. The fuel delivery system and starting system has virtually all new parts: fuel pump to fuel filter & all wires, cap and rotor. I replaced the starter a couple years ago, its new oem bosch. Hence, as long as the mixture and idle are adjusted right, as they are right now - it starts up no problem. Also, the timing is set right. It runs well even though the #8 plug is firing properly; that's because it's a large V8 - takes about 9.5 to 10 quarts of oil. One gunked up plug doesn't stop this car. The transmission is good as are the brakes and tires. I just checked each wheel's pads last year and replaced 2 out of the 4 sets due to wear. The tires are new from 2008 and I've only put about 10k on the car since then. It's an older car, so it's obviously not perfect but if you're mechanically inclined and know cars, it'd be a great car for you. Just a couple things to remedy and you'll have this car for years to come. I've had it for almost 8 years. Please explain. Answer-Bidder: Because I want to buy a car Response-Me: I'm sorry, I have to cancel your bid. You need to have some bid history or have joined some time ago. People who joined day of, usually have another ebay account, but create a new one to remove formal liability from their regular account. Very rarely is a first person's transaction on ebay a car.
