Vehicle Detail
For your consideration is a 1970 VW Beetle Convertible runs and drives great. The engine has been rebuilt, new brakes, new starter and new muffler. It starts and runs great. The body looks to be easily restorable. It needs a new tub installed and a new spare tire compartment and possibly a new front apron. The interior is serviceable, but if you plan a show car it needs a little attention. The tires are old and starting to crack. Three plus the spare hold air, but they're old and I wouldn't trust them. The odometer says about 72k, but I cannot verify it's correct. It has nice chrome wheels which should polish easily. The top is serviceable and would work fine as a daily driver. It keeps out water, but if you do a full restoration a new top will be needed. About $2000 worth of parts and a little work and you're looking at a very nice car. You can spend less and have a very nice daily driver. NADA shows High retail of $18,500, low retail of $5,600. This is a real Karmann convertible, not a converted sedan. It was a late 1970 model. With the car I am including a pair of convertible support beams, which will save you over $300 in parts. These two support rails are two of the most expensive parts needed for the full restoration. I am willing to consider a trade for a quality MG, Triumph, Miata, or other roadster. However, to consider a trade I need a full description, VIN, and several pictures. You would also be responsible for getting the trade to me. While I will assist with getting the car to the shipper, I will not be responsible for shipping. You are free to come pick-up the car yourself. I would suggest you that you inspect the car before bidding, or you may hire an inspection service. You are not purchasing a perfect car, you are buying a 42 year old VW that needs some work. For the right person this is an incredible opportunity to have a daily driver for under low retail, or a show car for 1/3 of the retail price, including all of the needed parts. I have been on eBay since 1998. In all that time I have not received negative feedback. I have excellent feedback as a seller and don't want to jeopardize that to sell this car. Please ask all questions before bidding. If you have less than 10 positive feedback postings, please contact me before bidding. Winning bidder must pay $500 within 48 hours of winning the auction. Good luck and good bidding. On Jun-26-12 at 17:46:50 PDT, seller added the following information: I was asked to provide photographs of the damaged areas. From the looks of it, the heater channels may not need replaced as I originally thought. The front apron could be patched with fiberglass if you wanted a quick fix, but I would replace it if I did it. I didn't include pictures of the battery box or the spare tire holder because they will definitely need replaced. As for the front quarter pans. I think they're usable as is, it was fixed with regular sheet metal rather than a pan quarter, so if you want originality it will need replaced, if you want a daily driver, it probably does't need replaced. On Jun-27-12 at 12:23:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I added a picture of the engine bay. I believe the engine is original to the car. It is the 1600 and was rebuilt after a long storage (the car has an inspection sticker from 1987 and student parking stickers from 85/86, so I believe it was off the road for nearly 25 years). My understanding is that it was garaged for the storage and based on the state of the body it appears as if it was. I will continue to update the information on this vehicle based upon any questions you may have.
