Vehicle Detail

I will do the best I can explaining, please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to see additional photos. The car started life as a 1983 volvo 242 GLT factory flathood. It is one of the factory homologated flathood cars and is one of about 500 built and available here in the US. The restoration was started several years ago when the car was stripped down to just a bare shell (when I say bare it was literally just the sheetmetal.) The body was straightened out to far better then volvo ever intended it to be. Door locks were shaved, truck lock was shaved, antenna was shaved. Entire engine bay was shaved clean of all mounting holes and extra brackets. All metal work was performed with metal patch panels and welded in, no shortcuts in the body work department. The frontend was also swapped over at this point to the later style 240 front fenders and headlights. Once all of the body work was completed, the body was completley painted, starting with all of the jambs and engine compartment and then moving onto the outside of the car. PPG base and clear was used on the entire car. There is no evidence of the original silver color on the car. Once the paint was completed the entire underside was undercoated to complete the factory Volvo appearance, front inner fenders were coated as well as rear wheelwells. With the paint and body work completed it was time to begin the process of assembly. Late model glass and new rubber seals were then installed. Each and every part and piece of the undercarriage were either powdercoated or painted and all bolts have been zinc plated. Rearend housing was powdercoated, backing plates, sway bars lower control arms in the front all crossmemebers you get the idea. Rear suspension is Bilstein HD struts and RSI coilover plates and 10" coilover springs coupled with IPD powdercoated black sway bar (has factory IPD stickers on it :) Front suspension is RSI shortened coilovers with Bilstein HD struts and 8" springs. Strut housings were powdercoated black along with 25mm IPD front swaybar. Brakes are all factory 240 with new rotors, bearings and seals were all replaced at time of assembly (around 20 miles ago) new calipers were installed. All factory hard lines were painstakingly cleaned or replaced and reinstalled. Flex lines were replaced with DOT braided stainless hardware. Rearend has a truetrack installed with I believe 3.91 gears ( I can double check, just dont recall 100%) new bearings and seals were installed. With a rolling shell we can move on to the finishing touches. The entire car was rewired with a harness out of a 1988 volvo 240. This new system runs on lh 2.4. It can be troubleshot with any 1988 volvo 240 wiring diagram with just a couple exceptions. The engine is operating on lh 2.4 as well. The engine is a NA engine that was warmed over with a shaved head and tight squish headgasket to raise the compression up from stock. Then a RSI NA stage one cam was installed. The bottom end is stock though and the mileage is unknown. Then at this point I knew that it had to have a turbo. A 90+ manifold was painted and installed along with a 16t turbo from a late model volvo. The block was drilled for a return drain line and the supply line was run to the turbo. An ebay intercooler were mounted up in front of a stock 240 radiator. All intercooler lines were fabbed up by myself in 2.5" mandrel bends and then finished and painted to match the body. The block, oil pan and valve cover are all painted to match as well. Pan and Valve cover paint is exceptionally nice, not just a scuff and shoot. Engine bay wiring was all hidden and run behind the dash and up underneath the fenders to complete the shaved look in the engine bay. I fabricated a custom aluminum radiator catch can that sits on the passenger fender well. Motor still uses a mechanical fan. Engine runs great, quite lumpy cam with a little (5lbs) boost it gets up and goes. Interior is a 9.8 out of 10. If you know 240's you know how they like to fall apart. Seats are in like new condition as is the carpet and door cards. The dash was replaced with a newer very close to perfect dash. There is one small crack on the dash near the windshield. Front and rear bumpers were all refinished with hours and hours of sanding prep and paint (still satin black). All side trim was replaced with refinished gt trim (its metal instead of plastic) and painted satin black. New flathood grille was purchaed and installed as well. Wheels are CCW Classic street wheels. 18x8's all the way around in the full polish street version. These were custom built by CCW for this car with an et15 rear and an et19 in the front. These are 5x108 so they bolt on directly to the hub with no adapters. Tires are BFG KDW 225/40/18 I am sure I am forgetting lots of details. Car does need two things, back of rear seat panel is not installed and sunroof seal needs to be installed. Other than that car is completely new starts runs and drives (passed Oregon DEQ) It is far too nice to just hide away in my garage as I really just enjoy building cars. Car took first place at 2012VCOA Davis show for 240's and first place at the 2012 IPD Garage sale.
