Vehicle Detail
I recently added this car to my collection. Even though my real passion is Muscle cars from the late 60's and 1970's, I have a soft spot for the full-size Wagons. In the 25 years I've been collecting classic vehicles, I have never met nicer people than Dick and Theresa. A picture of them is shown below and was taken the day I got the car. They bought this car brand new in 1977 at Damerow Ford (also known as Francis Ford, the last name of the dealership's owners) right here in Beaverton Oregon which is a suburb of Portland. That dealership is still in business. This Wagon was at a special event sale. They needed a new Station Wagon to pull their 1960's 21 foot IDEAL travel trailer and 3 sons. This LTD Country Squire Wagon came with heavy-duty towing package, 460-4V engine, C-6 transmission, A/C, tilt steering, power rear gate window, power door locks, cruise contol, etc. She has the 3-way tailgate and AM/FM stereo. This was Theresa's daily transportation to her job at Tuality Hospital and the family vacation mobile. When their sons grew and moved away in the mid-1980's, the Wagon primarily sat. The last time they registered the car was 1999. I have all records and documents pertaining to the car since day-one. I even have the original dealer window sticker and maintenance receipts in the file. 112,000 original miles. The 460 engine was completely rebuilt in 1990 when the car had 84,000 miles and at a cost of over $4500. Receipt for that comprehensive rebuild is in the records folder. I don't think a finer example can be found. The car is beautiful. ALWAYS garaged and never damaged or smoked in. She is 100% original other than mechanical maintenance items. Exterior paint and wood trim are day-one original and in outstanding condition. NO spot repairs or damage of any kind, ever! The interior is also completely original with no patches or repairs. As close to a 1977 time capsule as anyone will ever find. Being in the hi-tech industry and working for Tektronics Inc. here in Beaverton Oregon until retiring in 1996 after 30 years with that company, Dick was and still is at over 70 years old a very detail oriented person. The home they built in 1967 on the 15 acre Hazelnut orchard they planted in 1969 are both pristine. I knew how nice the Wagon was going to be the second I pulled into the driveway. And yes, I bought the trailer too because like the Wagon, it's the nicest anyone will ever see. The exterior, interior and drivetrain are all in excellent condition. Even if I didn't type another word you'd be able to form a clear and accurate opinion of the car within the first few photos. For those that want the long-winded history and detailed condition report, here it is: The body, paint and exterior wood trim are in beautiful condition. NEVER repainted and the black finish is outstanding. A high shine and clear reflections are in every panel. The simulated Country Squire wood trim is still bright and in amazing shape with only 3 or 4 small blemishes. She is 100% rust-free, not even a rust pimple. Both chrome bumpers are gorgeous and all stainless moldings are excellent. Even the chrome plating on the factory roof rack looks like new. No pitting or tarnish. One very small ding is located on the top edge of the drivers side front fender. Other than tiny typical rock chips there are no other paint flaws worth mentioning. All glass is in MINT condition and the trim around them appears as new. There is just no exception for meticulous care and being garage kept. One of the nicest full-size Wagons of any vintage anyone will find. Simply a beautiful car from a long gone era. The interior is original and in wonderful shape. Never abused or treated like a pickup truck. The cargo area is spectacular. The lower section of the front seat where the driver sits shows very light wear but again, very impressive original condition. Door panels, headliner, dashboard area and carpeting are in excellent condition. Factory rubber Ford floormats have protected the carpet since new. Absoltely everything works. All lights, gauges, heat/AC, wipers, horn, radio, power rear window, etc, are functioning properly. The digital clock is not working. If you look closely at the dashboard photo that shows the radio and clock you'll notice a small flaw around the clock. The original owners had installed a different clock years ago. The hideaway headlights open and close correctly. Over time, when she just sits in the garage, the headlight doors will sometimes slowly open. There must be a small vacuum leak in that system but I haven't put much effort into finding it. That minor issue seems to be rectifying itself with use. One look inside and the condition is obvious. As mentioned earlier, these where very picky people and the car was ALWAYS treated well. The drivetrain is performing extremely well. The 460-4V engine received a full rebuild 28,000 miles ago at 84,000 miles. This was a top-flight rebuild. Everything was done. Bronze guides and on and on. She starts easily and has good power and acceleration. The C-6 transmission shifts nicely and the big traction-lock POSI rear end operates correctly. The brakes and suspenion feel tight and sound. The Midas dual exhaust system still looks new. She had been sitting untouched in the garage for over a decade at my time of purchase. I had the factory Ford/Holley 4 barrel carburetor gone through and a full tune-up done. The tires showed 90% tread remaining but due to their age I replaced them with a brand new set of radial white walls. She's road-worthy and very reliable. Highway speeds are smooth and comfortable. She doesn't squeak, vibrate or rattle. A beautiful driving car. I will make brief comments under many of the upcoming photos. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Wagon in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows the car clearly and accurately. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My number is 503-887-1231 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 5 days and is scheduled to end on Thursday evening, the 21st of June at 8PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the car becomes no longer available. If you are outside of the U.S. or Canada or have a low (0) eBay score you MUST read my Terms Of Sale before bidding.Everyone, PLEASE, read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTIONI did not set a reserve price on my Wagon. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see 2 days before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time, DAVE The interior is in beautiful original condition. Very light wear visible on drivers side lower portion. One small seam split and a flaw on the bottom edge. Easily repairable but I wanted to show the car in her 100% original condition. The most sanitary and original engine compartment you'll find. I took this picture of Dick and Theresa with my phone the day I got the car. Yes, I bought the 1960's trailer too. It was as nice as the Wagon. I sold it to a very close friend that collects vintage trailers. I will provide contact information for Dick and Theresa to the next owner. I have been driving and enjoying the car this past week. Downtown Portland. All paint is original. No spot repairs or repainting. She has never been in an accident. All bright-work and trim is gorgeous. Tiny rock chips behind the front tires can be seen on close inspection. I almost had the lower sections repainted but decided to not compromise her originality. No rust anywhere, ever. This small ding happened when a wooden ladder fell against it in the garage. I took every picture in my driveway at home. I backed her across the culdesac for these 4 photos in order to show her in the shade. Beautiful either way. Optional 3-way magic door gate. Earth-tone colors are often difficult to show accurately. The tan interior was a hard color to photograph. This photo best shows the true interior color. Even the cargo area side panels are excellent. Factory air shocks that you control from under the hood. Very rare. The undersides are outstanding! Never exposed to a salted road or harsh chemical de-icers. 100% rock-solid. Dry as a bone. She is the desirable 460-4V version. The best and most powerful you could get. Original window sticker. She was $8428.00 when purchased new. All service records. Engine rebuild receipt. $4516.36 in 1990. This receipt is actually several pages and documents everything that was done. This was a complete and comprehensive rebuild. All warranty info with metal Ownercard and original owners manual. This is the original Oregon Certificate of Title and the ONLY one ever issued to the car. 5 years of payments to the Tektronics Employees Credit Union. Paid-off and released in 1982. I'm sure not even one payment was a day late knowing Dick. These cars were rare even in the 1970's and VERY few survived. I feel confident when I say she has got to be one of the finest originals anywhere. Her entire life and ownership are documented. To say this is a neat car is an understatement. Deserves going to the right home where the appreciation she's always received will be continued. Most of all, she deserves to be driven and enjoyed. Thanks again- _________________________________________________________Terms of Sale: 35yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS. Please read and agree with the following: I have described my Wagon honestly and to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. I have 100% faith in the drivability of this car and to my knowledge everything is in excellent working order per my written description above. Free and clear Oregon title is in my possession. I have recently been driving and enjoying the car in the nice weather without concern but she is 35 years old and routine service and repairs should be expected due to her age and originality. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My number is 503-887-1231. A $1000.00 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements just let me know BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland for over 8 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. The remaining balance is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds. Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately owned trucking company. They have handled my transport needs perfectly for the last 4 years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. I will provide contact info at your request. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them were just fine. My location zip code is 97214. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1200.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy to arrange. If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me BEFORE bidding. If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids for these reasons. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD. On Jun-20-12 at 16:26:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a quick update:I was re-reading and going over the auction for my Wagon yesterday just to be sure that I didn't miss anything. When I came to the photo of the window sticker I saw something that I hadn't noticed before. On the options list it says four-wheel-power-disc-brakes. So, I went out to the garage and looked at the backside of the rear wheels. Yup, disc brakes on the rear. I have a love for all full-size wagon's but my true passion is General Motors. Sorry Ford guys. Nothing against Fords and my collection has a few and even some Mopars but I'm not as educated on cars outside of the GM Family. I called a friend that is a life-long Ford enthusiast and he has never heard of rear disc brakes on a Country Squire Wagon. They obviously made them but this must be an extremely rare option and possibly part of the towing package this car came with. Also, these are the hubcaps that have always been on the car and are correct 1977 equipment but I also have a set of the wire wheel covers that are noted on the option sheet. I appreciate the interest and enjoyable communications I've received. There are some nice people out there. Take care, DAVE
