Vehicle Detail
It is surprising how much attention this truck garners as it is driven around. People think it looks cool. The previous owner upgraded the interior in a way that looks much more presentable and inviting than the original seat covers and other interior trim did. The manual steering was also converted by the previous owner to power steering via addition of a GM power steering gear and related modifications. It was originally equipped with a 170 cu. in. slant six engine and automatic transmission but now a later model 318 engine sits in the engine compartment with a torqueflite automatic transmission. The engine runs OK, cranks over evenly suggesting uniform compression and the oil pressure seems to be good and the transmission functions normally too. The engine stays cool and the charging system functions as it should. The gauges all function including temperature, charging, and fuel gauge as well as the oil pressure light. The speedometer does not work so that the miles on the truck are unknown. The radio now present is an aftermarket am/fm with a speaker box next to the engine bay and it works fine. The truck has a straight beam front suspension which imparts an old style truck ride (bouncy) and the steering does not possess the precision of modern vehicles as a result either. Brakes are fine as well. The body is quite presentable as it is, but it could be improved. There is very little evidence of previous rust on this vehicle compared to most of the examples I have seen. The bed floor is mostly original and in good condition except at the very rear on both sides of the tailgate (rear of the wheel wells) are a couple of metal patches that you can hopefully see in the photos. The body sides seem to have a minimum of filler in them, althought there is some evident near the rear of the side of the bed. The underside and inner side panels all look like a nice California example should. There is some very thin undercoat material peeling off in some areas underneath, but nice sheet metal is evident in those areas as shown in the photos. The tailgate is in good condition with very few dents compared to most. The biggest rust issue that I could see is at the rear of the roof over the cab, where there is rust out just above the drip rail up there, as shown in the photos. I was told this vehicle resided in the mountains in Southern California and snow would sit up on the roof for extended periods of time which led to that issue being present. The five window cab has good glass. This would be a nice ride for the occasional trip to Home Depot or just driving around town. Keep in mind this is a 46 year old truck so there is no warranty nor would there be any returns, so please ask me all of your questions before bidding and be sure you have the funds ready when the auction ends (deposit via Paypal) with full payment due in one week as specified. I do not have room to store this vehicle so it would need to be picked up within two weeks from end of bidding. Please be sure you can meet these requirements before placing a bid. I am selling this truck for a private owner so that I am relaying in the posting what I have experienced with the truck in a brief couple of drives and what he has told me about it. You would be welcome to come and inspect or drive the vehicle. The reserve is low relative to the overall condition of the truck and set after examining the pricing of other such vehicles presently for sale. The current owner is selling the vehicle because his wife wants something more modern with more creature comforts.
