Vehicle Detail
1977 Scout II in driveable condition. Have original build sheet! 3.73 front and rear axles, heavy duty front and rear springs are a few things listed. She always starts even in winter and when the choke kicks off purrs like BIG sleeping wild tiger until you wake her up then the hungry 345V8 looks for little rice burners with loud mufflers and shows them what American made means. Description- Pans are fairly solid with exception of rivet repair job on both rear tire wells. Suspension good -needs shocks. Tie rods good. Power steering fine. Frame solid but has slight surface rust. Transmission and engine strong. Clutch good. Third gear a little tricky until figure out where sweet spot is. Body has dents and scratches and holes(see pics) the worse being driver side rocker panel. Anything scout dot com has replacement for 70 bucks.. Top has inner panels but not attached since one needs minor repair(small crack) and need cleaning and reconditioning- no hardware. Custom wood panel top sags a little but would sag less once panels in place. Seats ok -no tears or rips. Dash has one crack. The rear brakes inoperable-drives on fronts only. I've driven on fronts only for a year no problems doesn't pull but should fix to make safer. Four speed has no problems on freeway cruises at seventy fine. Took on a 60 mile trip this week on HWY no problems. New ignition tumbler but missing bolt so pulls off- need to pull steering wheel, never got around to it. Keys only for ignition- keys for doors and back missing. A M radio works with custom boom box speakers on floor in rear, horn works, wipers work-knob needs glue, signals work, heat blows - no air cond. Needs dash lights ,oil pressure and temp gauge. Gas tank holds gas no leaks and gauge works. Voltage meter works. Door strikers need adjusting-doors hang a little loose but not because of rust once strikers adjusted should be fine-bottom of doors a little rusty and drivers window crank not working. A bolt is missing on automatic locking hub an a little loose so have never taken out of four wheel drive- it may need repair. All glass good with no cracks. Emergency brake not working. Needs side mirrors-will include one shown in pic-loose though.. I put on a Scout winch bumper(no winch) with slight scratches but no rust shines nice. Odometer says 74k. I believe it to be original because of condition of tranny engine and suspension unless all these components where rebuilt which either explanation is a win for buyer. It has a little rust but they all rusted within ten years if driven in north. I have even come across a gentleman who had scout replace all pans and body panels due to warranty. Overall its in good shape with superficial rust and not that much in my opinion. Recently changed to synthetic oil which it loves. Please ask questions and inspection encouraged as well as any picture you want me to take by e,ail or smart phone. PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS SERIOUS ABOUT PURCHASING. EACH LISTING COSTS BUYER LISTING FEES AND TIME. IF YOU DON'T HAVE MONEY OR WAY TO TRANSPORT OR DRUNK OR ON/OFF MEDICATION BOTH LEGAL AND ILLEGAL - DO NOT BID. Thank you! Good luck! This is a great vehicle but for the first time classic auto buyer it is not new. On May-31-12 at 21:41:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Several things I forgot to mention. One is, dipstick is not original to vehicle- previous owner put on but does not give accurate reading. I always give her a sip or two of synthetic when driving a lot or before trip, she burns a little and leaks a little as they all do but we're talking drops and not many. Also, have not gotten as far as new wheel bearings or transmissoin fluid check or change. It makes no weird noises from bearings and tranny not leaking but since this engine does not have a dip stick for tranny since not designed with one, the only way to check it is to change it. Its probably fine and has given me no problems however I mention it for the buyer who is up for driving it longer than a hundred miles(120 is the longest trip so far with tow dolly on for 80 miles no problems). It doesn't leak or burn coolant ,tires hold air, lights work and charging system fine but driving long distance is at own risk. Another thing worth mentioning as far as hub - it is an automatic locking hub that is missing a bolt. I have not tried to replace therefore vehicle I believe is in 4 high. No way of testing but have driven as is for almost a year with freeway speeds of 70 to 80 with no problems. Also, several bolts and gasket for top-where connects to body missing and there are several half dollar rust spots(none through) and a few rusty scratches on top not shown in pics. I will send any pics ,if leave phone number or email. Thank you. On Jun-10-12 at 12:32:23 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION CURRENT AND NEW BIDDERS- SCOUT HAS DEVELOPED A LOCK LEFT FRONT CALIPER ISSUE TODAY-MAKES A KNOCKING SOUND AND THUD AS WHEEL SPINS MAKING IT NOT ROADWORTHY. ENGINE CLUTCH TRANNY STILL GREAT-NO CHANGES THERE. I HAVE DROPPED THE PRICE TO BUY IT NOW WHICH ALSO REFLECTS THE RESERVE TO COMPENSATE FOR BRAKE JOB. WILL PULL ON TO TRAILER FINE RUNS GREAT. I MAY GET AROUND TO REPAIRING BRAKES BECAUSE ITS SUMMER AND THE TOPS OFF AND AS LONG AS VEHICLE IS REGISTERED I'M DRIVING IT BUT NO GUARANTY. I'M AT BREAK EVEN AT THIS POINT. GOOD LUCK! On Jun-12-12 at 11:17:36 PDT, seller added the following information: Now to sweeten the pot I am adding these things to the deal: 1 barely used lack carpet kit- a little sandy not sure if complete, I vacumed it but could used a good out door beating and high power vaccume.., 1 repair manual. Haven't got around to looking at brakes yet either.. call me with questions 262-364-6083 John On Jun-12-12 at 13:57:37 PDT, seller added the following information: OK- TURNS OUT BRAKE ISSUE WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A LOOSE HUB-TOOK WHEEL OFF TOOK OFF WARN HUB CLEANED SOME CRUD OUT THE NOLT HOLES TURN OUT 3 ARE MISSING AND GASKET WILL NEED REPLACING TO-THEN WITH A FEW SLIGHT TAPS WITH HAMMER HUB TURNED-TURNS OUT A LITTLE CRUD WAS HOLDING IT UP-SO NO BRAKE PROBLEM NO HUB PROBLEM OR 4X4 PROBLEM. IF I COULD JACK THE PRICE UP BACK TO WHAT IT WAS I WOULD. IF DOES NOT HIT RESERVE I WILL. TOOK IT TO GET GAS 55MPH DOWN STRIP AFTER REPAIR- WAS THE ENVY OF ALL.
