Vehicle Detail
Your looking at a 1988 Scirocco 16v I purchased about 7 years ago to restore. Any rust spots on the body I took care of immediately upon bringing the car home. There are a couple spots of rust on the car on the door seam. No rot anywhere, the body of the car is in great shape for its age which is mainly why I picked it up. On the rear passenger side there is some bondo work that honestly wasn't done very well but it doesn't look horrible, it does have a clear coat over it. There are also some spots around the drivers side door handle and above the drivers side front fender flare that look to have filler, I have the front bumper in the basement but its not the matching white that was original with the car, its the gray fat lip usdm bumper that came on the 8v models. Obviously this car had an off at some point in its past hence the crappy welding job up front. Since owning it I have gone through the car as best as I could to make it what it was when it rolled off the dealer floor. Pros - New alternator, new power steering pump, new water pump, new cv joints(passenger side not installed yet pending repair of the carrier seal), new clutch kit, new drive flange seal, new cap and rotor, HVAC controls, heater valve, new oil pump, new oil pan with windage tray, battery(2yrs old), new carpet in the interior, Techtonics Tuning Catalytic converter/downpipe combo, Techtonics tuning 2.25" exhaust cat back w/stainless borla muffler, coolant flange, all coolant hoses, belts, all sensors are new and a eurosport front lower stressbar. The interior is pretty much all original as I have not messed with it hardly at all besides to tear out the old carpet because it was super gross, I do have the cd player the car came with when I bought it but its not pictured. It wasn't really installed properly and has a tendency to fall out so I just unplugged it. Also the previous owner for whatever reason cut the antenna wire....... Cons - drivers seat was welded into an upright position after reclining on me during an autocross at the worst possible time, despite replacing everything behind the dash for the climate controls she still likes to blow warm air at ya. An issue that has popped up since getting the car out of storage this year is the tach and speedo are acting wacky. I am pretty sure it is a wire not hooked up right but I haven't had a chance to really look at that yet. The radiator and radiator fan are original and I haven't done a thing to them. The car will need new front tires but the rears are 90%. Also there is a slow oil leak coming from the front carrier seal, I believe a new one is needed as this one is slightly perhaps warped. Only leaks when the car is running. I had the car at a track day 2 years ago at Watkins Glen and I spun the bearing out on the number one cylinder. Pulled the motor and had it reringed and obviously new rod bearings were also installed. I also had the head checked out and it passed. I put it all back together and it fired right up. The 83,484 miles are ont he chassis not the motor. The motor has been running a grand total of maybe 10 minutes total because of the slow oil leak. Not looking to make a ton of money on this sale but I would like to at least get my money back on some of this so the reserve is reasonable. Any questions please feel free to ask. I will try to include all the pictures of things I have discussed in this description. Anything I don't have pictured please let me know and I will get it for you. On May-23-12 at 05:29:31 PDT, seller added the following information: Few things I wanted to add...The rear shelf in the car is made from plywood as the original was all sagged out and had tons of holes cut into it for speakers. This rear shelf is covered in the same carpet as the floor. The rear speaker shelves were also cut larger by the previous owner to fit 6x9 speakers and have not had any covering on them since I have owned it. I will be including a picture of it as soon as I can get home today 5/22. This car will come with the bentley service manual, vw special tools and various bits of advertising I have for the car including a large poster from a dealership as well as any spare parts I have collected throughout the years. Although the car does run, as I said the car has not actually been driven since the motor rebuild so I would not suggest driving this home. It would be in your best interest to tow it. To explain a bit of what happened in regards to the carrier seal reference. When I first got this motor back together I started it up and within moments I noticed a oil leak which I thought was coming from the carrier seal, as soon as I replaced that I started it up again...still leaking...I finally found the slow leak coming from the jackshaft seal which is right above the carrier seal. Anyway the seal on the carrier is new and the passenger side cv joint/drive axle has been properly installed. Both axles up front are brand new. On May-23-12 at 05:54:55 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a NON-SMOKER's vehicle. Headliner is missing as I tore it down in hopes of finding a replacement at some point, it was so filthy it was beyond saving like the original carpet. On Jun-03-12 at 15:54:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Started it this morning to move it and a new issue arose with it. The car will only stay running for a few minutes and then shut down. Fires right back up right away. Could be bad gas? Out of time for this project so please take her away and finish it. Awesome looking rare VW sad to see her go but I just don't have the time anymore. Thanks for looking. Reserve has been lowered.
