Vehicle Detail
This is our beautiful BMW 5-Series, 1998 528i. It is loaded with immaculate leather and all the great bells and whistles these 528i's come standard with!! The car, starts, runs, and drives, like a dream. Problem is....IT IS OVERHEATING AND PROBABLY NEEDS A HEAD GASKET IMMEDIATELY!!! In the spirit of full disclosure, I can tell you that I am almost certain the thermostat has stuck once or twice in recent days. I have been trying to troubleshoot the overheating issue before it got too bad.... but I'm afraid I'm too late and this engine will now NEED A HEAD GASKET job before it can be a reliable great car!! I have had the following replaced in the last 3 months (radiator, water pump, thermostat) by a mechanic that finally gave up and said he "couldn't find where air was entering the system". All along I suspected a head leak but have now learned by driving the car from Dallas to San Antonio WITHOUT overheating, that most certainly a weak or bad mechanical fan clutch has been a main culprit all along. I also found a 3 inch gash in the upper rad hose under the clamp and have now replaced that hose as well. So... to sum up... Car needs...Head Gasket JobNew Thermostat (again)New Fan Clutch and you should have essentially a BRAND NEW cooling system once your done! The radiator was the german version (better of two offered) and the water pump was with the aluminum impeller per my request. The vehicle recently has had an oil change with Mobil 1 as all of my vehicles run. Other things.....The drivers side window does not roll down. It is stuck all the way up and probably needs a new regulator installed. The driver's side rear door is stuck shut. It won't unlock or open from inside or out. It did this when I first bought car last year, but then opened for a short while, now stuck shut again. I think it's just something with the lock mechanism getting caught someone inside the door. There is tutorial on the web about how to cut thru panel to access and fix this problem. Other than that.... this car is in EXCEPTIONAL condition in every way for it's age!!!There are a few little stains and dirt on the carpet, but no rips, tears, or stains anywhere on the leather, door panels, dash, headliner, etc. This auto is VERY VERY CLEAN and NICE inside and out! Recent new parts... RadiatorWater PumpVacuum lines redoneNew O2 Sensors (no codes once reset)Sears Die-Hard Platinum (4 months old, 5 yr free replacement)New Moog Front End LinksNew Fog Lights (car was involved in curb check before we bought it... see old pic), foglights are NOW brand newAdded custom cargo carrier to trunk Car has small amount of dings/dents (nothing larger than a pinky finger though) in various places on body, but you can tell from pics... it's in phenomenal shape overall. When the cooling system is fixed, the car drives extremely smooth, shifting smoothly and has tons of power!!! It also still retains that "tight" bimmer feel to it, especially once i replaced the front end links....WOW! I also spent quite some time wetsanding and polishing the headlight assemblies..... I'm just a bit OCD about having a clean, nice car! Tires are in good shape all around. So, again... the car is for sale, but is IN SAN ANTONIO, at my nephew's home near exit 170/I-35 area. He is very open to showing the car to anyone who would like to see it, but you will not be allowed to drive it or leave with it till it is paid for, because it SHOULD BE TOWED AWAY to be repaired correctly before it is drivin/heated up again. It WILL start though. I live in the Dallas area and will take care of any paperwork via mail, but also will be going back to San Antonio within the next months for my Niece's first childbirth and can be available then as well. Title is clear blue and in my name. Oh... .and I think my seller rep speaks quite well too about this car.... everything is as I say. Please contact me to set up a showing of the car. Thanks and good luck!!! Someone's gonna end up with one fantastic bimmer!!
