Vehicle Detail

1979 Mercedes Benz 300 SD Turbo diesel $500 toward shipping or your travel costs (even if you live locally) VIN: 12312312143379 Here’s another increasingly rare, great driving Mercedes we’ve just acquired for our eBay customers. This 240D Diesel sedan represents the zenith (and one of the last years) of the hand-built sedans that Daimler Benz began producing in the mid-fifties and exporting to the USA. The quality and detail of these classic four-doors, combined with the rugged durability of the 2.4 liter diesel drive train make them among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. This car came to us recently after spending its entire life driving our salt-free Pacific Northwest roads. With the cost of fuel increasing ever more rapidly these diesels make increasing sense to own and drive with their legendary fuel economy and drive train longevity! My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173. Please contact me anytime during this auction to make an offer or set an appointment time to inspect and test-drive this fine car. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Great handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, these mid-size 123 Body style sedans are one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! “Time capsule” is really a great adjective to use when describing this car. I know you’ll admire its overall provenance. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall exterior condition is superior to most any other 30+ year old MB you'll ever find. Climb over, under and throughout; I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this car hates rust and you won’t find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Based on the condition of the undercarriage and the body, I really don’t think this Benz has seen any snowy winter roads during its lifetime. Hop in, turn the key (let the glow plugs heat for five or six seconds) and the four cylinder diesel engine starts immediately – even when cold! It had better because we just had the starting system serviced and installed new glowplugs! The automatic transmission shifts as it should. Having owned many dozens of Daimler vehicles over three decades, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience (my daily driver is an ’02 E320 with 285K miles). I KNOW you’ll be proud to own and drive this very nice, original car! CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: The car idles, runs and drives as I feel it should – immediate, strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, and no brake pull. The only mechanical issue I’ve found after driving the car over the past several days is the factory A/C system doesn’t blow cold (I’d suggest a refrigerant recharge down the road). The brown metallic paint is in stunningly good overall condition and holds quite a shine as a quality re -spray was done to original specs. The chrome and exterior trim all around are in way above average condition as shown. The entire undercarriage appears in great, solid shape and no rust in the trunk. The factory Mercedes alloys are straight and true with all four 185/75R14 radials at least 75% tread remaining. Take another good look at the interior pictures. Both front bucket seats and the rear bench cushions are in fine condition with no wear-through, tears or splits to the vinyl. All the wood dash trim is solid with no delaminating. The dash gauges and exterior lights are bright and true. The rear bench has kept its shape and still holds your bottom well (often you'll find lumpy rear seats on these cars). The headliner and sun visors are in fine shape, no tears or water stains. Usually, Mercedes factory radios are shot after just a few years (you’d think Daimler could provide better quality units based on how well everything else works on their rigs). The original Becker “Europa II” stereo here really shocked me, it blasts tunes like a new radio! Even the presets and the power antennae work great! I don’t believe I’ve ever attempted to open the sunroof, so that’ll be checked as the auction progresses. Please BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice car from a respected Ebay seller. I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that’s the main goal! Please don’t be upset if I do miss a minor flaw or you are required to spend a small amount on an unforeseen problem! No used car is perfect. Having said that, I have every confidence this vehicle could be driven cross-country tomorrow. We’re happy to work with any transporter you choose however, you’re welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Florida and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International a few miles away) and then begin a road trip the same day! C’mon, our fall weather’s not so bad here in the Pacific Northwest and this car would be a blast to drive home just about anywhere! Please Note: We will NEVER, EVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law) and we will NEVER solicit a “Second Chance Offer” from ANY Bidder! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new eBay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: Please check the photos over closely and call with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to inspect the vehicle at our premises on weekdays, so send your representative early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally I reserve the right to end the auction early if the Mercedes is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. Because of the high fees they charge, we accept PAYPAL for the deposit only. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with us. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later (You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends If you do decide to have the Mercedes shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn,WA) to get an instant on-line quote. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The vehicle can be stored free of charge at our location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been made. After that we charge $15 per day storage. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect state sales tax, title preparation and transfer fees. Out-of-state buyers will just pay any applicable fees where they live – we WON’T collect any sales tax from you. Because the car is advertised and for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington.
