Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1960 Ford Thunderbird. I am the 2nd owner and have owned this car since 1974. I bought it at a Ford dealership in South San Francisco. I have most all of the records of repairs over the past 38 years and the purchase receipt from the dealer when I bought it. The car has always been garage kept and driven less than 1,000 miles a year since about 1980. 230,900 miles is the actual miles on the car, please remember only 25K miles have been put on the car since 1987 when the following described work has been done. I have kept this car in original stock condition. According to the Classic Car Rating Guide (automotivemileposts.com) I would say this car is a very solid 3. This is a California car and I know a good deal of it's history. This car placed 2nd in class in the 2004 Ironstone Concourse in Murhpys, Ca. The car handles very well and with confidence, and at 300HP, has A LOT of "get up and go!" ATTN. CALIFORNIA BUYERS-The car is registered with correct 1960 YOM plates and I have both in very good condition. I checked with DMV and they will transfer with the car on owner transfer. HERE'S A LIST OF SPECIFIC FEATURES: Engine- Runs great and no leaks, Rebuilt in 1987. Since 2005 the following has been done: Valve and Intake manifold gasket replaced, Exhaust manifold replaced. New Interstate battery, Tune ups and oil changes regularly. Colors are correct except for the radiator fan. New generator in 2005. New radiator in 2003. New carburetor in 2003. Again, it has been driven less than 1,000 miles a year. Automatic Transmission- Rebuilt in 2007. (less than 3,000 mi. ago.) Shifts correctly and no leaks. (Same shop rebuilt it in 1977 as well.) Power Brakes- Master cylinder replaced in 2001. Brakes works fine and no leaks. Under Carriage- New leaf springs in 2006. Front suspension totally rebuilt in 1987 and routine inspection and repairs done as needed. Both front and rear done at Bridges Tire and Wheel in Burlingame, a well regarded local shop that works on many antique cars as well. Power Steering Components- Replaced in in 1982 with NOS components. Works correctly and no leaks. Electrical- New Interstate battery in 2010. All components and lamps work correctly. This car does not have back up lights. They were an option in 1960. Exhaust System- Replaced from manifolds to tail pipes in 2006 with stainless steel mufflers. Tires- New radials in 2001 are in excellent condition. Paint/Body- Re painted in 2008 by Maaco with their next to the top of the line paint/prep job. It has a few slight imperfections (the only real noticeable one is at the front drivers side of the hood scoop- see picture) but is very shiny and clean. Small indentation on front left fender at wheel well (see picture.) In 1987 I had it taken down to bare metal and repainted. Slight rust above driver’s side fender skirt developed around 1998 and was repaired with no further issues. Interior- Re upholstered with correct seat covers in 1988. Driver’s seat has some wear. Ideally, re do front seats and replace with new foam cushions. (Not available in 1988, or I would have done it.) All interior panels are in very good condition. There is a tear on the driver’s panel upper right from chrome piece (see picture.) Power windows, power seat, AM tube radio (new set of 4 tubes), Clock (updated with quartz AA battery version with correct sweep second hand), heater, cigarette lighter all work. Also included is a “period” Rubermaid color matched waste basket on passenger side in foot rest area. There is a working Pioneer cassette deck and seperate FM radio in the glove box. I have a spare undamaged glove box liner. Headliner and dome light in perfect condition. Dash pad replaced in 1978 with a used, but newly made one from a car with air conditioning. My car does not have AC so the grille is just for decoration. Most interior chrome was re chromed in 1987. Steering wheel has some wear. Two minor scuff marks on rear deck above seat back (see picture.) Vacuum wipers are hard to start but once they get going are ok and will work but if going uphill they will loose enough vacuum pressure and will "stall". Trunk- Solid and no rust. New liner with tire cover and tool bag done in 1996. Bumpers- Front rechromed. I can't remember when and can't find the paper work. Rear is original and has some pitting and a couple small dents, etc. Nothing bad though. Correct hub caps in good condition, plus a set of spare mid 60s Chevy SS "spinner" style hub caps in good shape that do not interfere with the fender skirts. Front wind shield was replaced in 1989. The original was pitted. Spare parts include the original front wind shield in pretty good condition, glove box liner in good condition, spare newer blue dash pad in ok condition (no AC hole), spare heater core, power window switch and 4 motors (status unknown), shop manual, owner’s manual, New rear seat belts, new shift collar and shift lever and shift indent plate. See pictures. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of winning bid to PayPal. The balance must be paid within 5 days of the end of the auction wired to my bank account. The balance will NOT be accepted into PayPal. The buyer is responsible to arrange and pay for transportation and pick-up. If contact is NOT made within 24 hours of auction end, I reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next highest bidder or sell it otherwise.
