Vehicle Detail

1972 Ford Mustang Grande Coupe with optional 351 cubic inch Cleveland 2-barrel engine. This car originally was purchased in San Ramon, CA on November 1, 1971 by a fellow named Ed Young. It was manufactured in Dearborn, MI and presumably immediately shipped to the US West Coast. It has probably been on the West coast since. I bought this car in Corvallis, Oregon in about 2003 as a car that my son and I could "work" on. Its odometer reading is currently 68,753 but I would imagine that actual mileage is 168,753. But, I do not know for sure. I have driven it very little in the 9 years I have owned it. This car runs extremely well and is very reliable. I would have no qualms driving it half-way across the country and back. It gets a lot of looks and complements because these are quite unusual and rare. You just don't see too many 1971 and '72 Mustangs (cars with very similar body styles) on the road! And, speaking of the "road".....the 1972 Mustang really was the end of the road for Mustangs for a long-long time. That era coincided with the oil crisis and, after that, Ford down-sized the Mustang and most would agree that the allure and excitement of the Mustang concept was lost. Some details on this car. VIN is 2F04H126914. Translation:2- 1972F- Dearborn, MI manufacturing site04- body style: Grande Coupe. Of the 125,093 Mustangs made in 1972, 18,045 were Grandes (14.4% of total production). Grande is the "high-end" coupe model126914- this is the 26,914th Mustang made at the Dearborn site. This car was originally painted Medium Brown Metallic (Paint code 5H); however, at some point during its life, it was repainted the current blue-green color. I don't know if this is a Mustang color or not. I would estimate the painting date was about 15-20 years ago. The paint could be re-done. From 10 feet away you don't see any problems but, up close, there are areas that are chipping. I have included some photos that show the paint chipping. Please note that the hood is painted a two-toned blue. Interior was originally brown but I had the interior all re-done in black. There are new black vinyl seats, carpets and headliner. Also, the previously brown plastic parts (e.g., quarter panels and dash) were re-painted flat black. You will see this in the photos. I think the blue-green car with black interior looks fabulous. There are some areas where the flat black pain is rubbing off and this could be touched up with a can øf spray paint. Some issues with this car:1. Clock is not working2. Right outside door latch is not working (door needs to be opened and connection made)3. Horn is not working (this should be an easy fix. It was working recently but the center piece from the steering wheel came loose and, since then, the horn has not worked. I think it is just a "connection".4. The fan motor is squeaky5. The trunk lid is stuck shut. This may be just a matter of getting some heavier duty muscle out to help me.6. On start up, there is some smoke. I have not done a compression check so don't know if this is a leaky valve or ring.7. Air conditioning is present but has never worked since I bought the car But...it is a 40 year old car.....so one can't expect perfection! Options on this car in 1972 were:1. Power steering2. Air-conditioning3. Power-assisted front disk brakes (rear drum brakes)4. 351-2V 266 HP engine (Cleveland: verified by 8 bolt ID on valve covers)5. Automatic transmission (C4) Recent improvements I have made to this car are: 1. Brand new tires (Cooper CS4 Touring 225-60R15 M+S Radials: $1200)- see photo. These have about 500 miles on them.2. Brand new interior ($1500 kit + $2600 install)3. Wooden spoke steering wheel 4. Stereo system (JVC-CD-AM-FM-Ipod/Iphone connection: $750) Some additional specifications on this car are:-Wheelbase- 109"-Height- 50.1"-Width- 74.1"-Length- 189.5"-Weight- 3560 lbs (with the 351 engine) If you check NADA to determine the "value" of this car in the 97330 zipcode, here is what you will get (also shown in one photo):1. Low retail ($7,770)2. Average retail ($13,090)3. High retail ($19,740) You can decide where you think this car "fits" in these guidelines. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me via Ebay and I will quickly answer your questions. Also, if you are living nearby and want to come by and see it face-to-face, that is fine. Just contact me via Ebay and we will set up a time to meet and test drive it if you wish. You may wonder why I am selling this car. Well, I have too many cars. I don't really want to sell this one but it makes no sense to have so many. Right now I have 3 sports cars. Better that these cars go to a home where they will be lavished with the care and attention they deserve! Shipping issues: If you buy a car on Ebay and can't come by and drive it home, then it can be shipped. I bought one car (a '59 Cadillac Coupe de Ville) in Indianapolis, Ohio a few years ago and had it shipped to Oregon. Cost of shipping 5 years back was $1200. It took about 2 weeks for my car to show up. So, I just want to say that shipping is pretty routine these days and can be done. There are many options for car shipping. -Compression- 8.6:1
