This is a rather special example of the Elva Courier Mk.IV T-Type. It was the car brought to New Zealand by Tony Ellis, as described on pages 338-339 of Elva, The Cars, The People, The History, by Janos Wimpffen (2011). I had the car shipped from New Zealand to the United States in 2011. This rare vehicle is the de-tuned test car used by Tony Ellis, and is one of eight SE versions of the Mk IV T-Type models. It has a current Virginia registration, and is licensed for the street as an antique vehicle. As there were only approximately 700 Couriers in all, many of which were converted to race cars, this may very well be the rarest of all Elva Couriers. This Elva is powered by its original 1798cc MGB engine. Ellis had mounted a Minnow turbocharger on it for testing, but he removed it before moving to New Zealand. The Elva has rack and pinion steering and all independent suspension. Its chassis has its original double backbone of steel box sections and square tubing, with steel side-members and floors made from scratch at the Trojan factory. It has a fiberglass body with steel doors. During transportation from New Zealand in its shipping container, the Elva suffered some damage to the fiberglass body, as seen in the photographs, likely from the tie-down straps. The engine runs. I have had the front disc and rear drum brakes repaired. A new clutch master cylinder is required. There is corrosion at the end of the side members. The windshield has a crack in it. The car is located in Stratford, Connecticut, and may be examined there. Subject to prior sale.
