I am selling my 1988 Mercedes 560 SL with a low reserve. This car has mostly been a weekend rider, only until recently when I started using it to commute to work in Phoenix this past winter. It is in great condition. It only has 92k miles and majority of those has been driven in dry climates, therefore, it’s had no rust, and no harsh winters. Over the years, this car has had the mechanical work put into it to keep it in tip-top shape. The engine runs great. It starts up every time no problem. Runs like a beast and yet smooth as silk. As for the low rating on the car, there has been issues with the miles reported with the title, but as you can see in the carfax report, the odometer checks out and the miles reported are the actual miles. *Photos of maintenance documents available upon request. Both the exterior and interior of the car are in wonderful condition. The exterior only has very minor flaws: two half dollar sized fading paint sunspots on the hood and a small quarter sized paint chip on the front right chrome rim. Both of these are displayed in the pictures and were on the car when I bought it. Michellin Tires were purchased in 2009 and have about 75% tread left. As you can see from the photos, the interior has been well taken care of. The leather is still tight, there’s virtually no fading on the dash, leather trim, or seats and the carpets and steering wheel are in great condition. All of the instruments (tach, odo, speedo, warning lights, temp, etc.) currently work. The A/C blows winter storms if you need it to, and the heater, although not used often, still works great. The original tape deck is still installed and works. Both speakers had dried out with time, so I had those replaced with two higher quality compatible speakers that sound great in this small cabin. This car is the epitome of Mercedes class. The finesse of the interior and exterior styling encourage you to just cruise with the top down and take it all in, and yet the 5.6L V8 seems to have unlimited power when you need it and is a reminder that you are driving a true Mercedes sports car classic. So if this car has a clear title and in this good of shape, why the low price? There are 3 issues to be aware of: -Although the hard top is in pristine condition (as seen from the photos). The soft top has some damage. About a month ago I had it parked in a parking garage with the soft-top up and someone took a knife to it making two small slashes in the plastic and two larger ones to the canvas. - Secondly, the transmission seal has an oil leak. I haven’t bothered getting it fixed because the cost to fix it honestly hasn’t seemed worth it. It requires that you keep an eye on the dipstick and add some oil here and there as it needs it. -And finally, this is a minor issue, but the cruise control doesn’t seem to work. It’s been that way since I got it, and I’ve never really felt that I needed it enough to get it fixed. So there you have it.
