Vehicle Detail

No reserve and priced to sell. Need to make room for another car, and so my beloved Mexico beetle must go. This VW classic Beetle was manufactured in Mexico in 2004 -- the last year the classic Beetle was made anywhere in the world. This car is an EPA/federally-certified, 100% legal conversion performed by BeetleMex of New Mexico, and as a result is titled as a 1964 VW beetle with a "Rebuilt from Salvage" title. Portions of a pan from a 1964 beetle were used to replace portions of the pan from an original 2004 Mexico beetle (which was brand new and had 0 km at the time of the conversion). From what I can tell, only the central tunnel was removed from the 2004 beetle's pan and replaced with a corresponding portion of the 1964 beetle's pan tunnel (which includes the rear chassis VIN number). Reference to photos taken beneath the car show this is the case, as just about all of the pan is obviously from the 2004 beetle. After VW classic beetle production ceased in Germany in the 1970s, production continued in Mexico (and other countries such as Brazil and South Africa), as did further minor tweaking and refinement of the classic beetle. As a result, this car has a 1600 cc VW fuel injected engine, electronic ignition (no points), a high-flow oil pump with larger gears, a catalytic converter (it passed Colorado's emission test last summer), automatically adjusting hydraulic lifters, a spin-on cartridge oil filter (in addition to the classic drop metal screen oil filter on the bottom of the case), safety glass, modern seat belts, a factory VW radio and CD player, an alarm system (which has been disabled), a rear swing axle, and other modifications relative to 1973 and earlier VW classic beetle production models. It is essentially a new car, since it has only 3,113 km on the odometer, has always been garaged, and barely driven. It still smells like new inside, and runs perfectly. I am confident this car could be safely driven anywhere in the USA. This is the second Mexico beetle I have owned (I owned one in Germany about ten years ago, and drove it for three years). What you get with this car is a completely different experience from that of a typical restored VW classic beetle. It's a new and slightly updated version of the classic beetle, with no worn out parts to worry about or replace, no rust, and no hassles. It's like a time capsule, because when you open the door and sit down in it, you are essentially sitting in a brand new 1973 VW classic beetle from days of yore. This car is not perfect: there are some scratches on the paint of the inside portion of driver's side door (see photo), the driver's side rear view mirror is cracked (you can get a new one from Antonio Trejos - details below), and there are a couple of minor paint/rock chips on the front (see photos). No dents or dings in any body panels. The original paint is bright and shiny. The interior fabrics have no rips, tears or stains. Included is the optional factory rear deck with upgraded speakers, VW antenna, and VW CD/FM player. Also included are front rubber mats (see photos), a roof rack (see photos), bottom oil filter gaskets and copper washers (enough for 6 or 7 oil changes), a new spin-on oil filter, original VW tools and roadside assistance gear (see photos), original manual (see photos), and two sets of keys. I will also include a copy of an English-language "repair manual" directed specifically to late model Mexican classic beetles that picks up where older manuals leave off re. the fuel injection system, electronic error codes, and the like. There is no rust on this car, and it has always been garaged. It has a brand new (8 month old) heavy duty high capacity sealed $160 Sears battery that will not leak. To reduce interior noise, I removed the entire interior of the car and applied a marine anti-vibration and sound deadening coating to the interior metal surfaces, followed by heat-molding and installing VW of Brasil sound deadening panels on the floorboards. Some of the coating wound up on the seat rail exterior surfaces (difficult to detect, unless you look carefully), and does not interfere with seat positioning. This car is sold 'as is" with no warranties of any kind. For example, no warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose in included. If you run into any problems titling this vehicle in any state you will be on your own, and I make no guarantees about the outcome of any application to title this vehicle in the USA. Having said that, I and the previous owner encountered no problems titling this vehicle in Colorado, and I passed Colorado emissions last year with no problems. DO NOT BID ON THIS AUCTION IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE LOWER 48 US STATES. I will accept no bids on this vehicle from buyers located in Alaska, Hawaii, anywhere in Canada, or anywhere else outside the lower 48 states. The winner of the auction will be required to pay a deposit of $1,000.00 by PayPal ONLY within 48 hours of the close of the auction. Full payment by cashiers check or money order for the remainder will be due no more than 7 days after the auction close. The new owner may take delivery of the vehicle and title once his or her cashiers check or money order has been cleared by my bank. Express mail charges shall be the responsibility of the winning bidder, as shall all vehicle transportation arrangements and transportation costs. I'll follow through on my part by being around when the car is pikced up by the transportation company. If a winning bidder in this auction does not follow through on the transaction by providing full payment within the specified 7 day time period, legal remedies, including monetary damages and other costs, will be pursued vigorously. DO NOT BID ON THIS CAR UNLESS YOU WILL FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THE TRANSACTION. If a prospective buyer wants to inspect the vehicle, please contact me through ebay. I will respond to most inquiries on the same day. Parts for this car can be purchased new from Antonio Trejos (who works at a VW dealer in Mexico City; partsvw@hotmail.com).
