ELECTRIC CONVERSION MR2 A fun little car with a great history, I purchased this car instead of building one myself and it was a great decision. car was converted to electric in utah, then went to texas, then to minnesota, now in new york. My wife has driven it 2 summers to a local college where she teaches(about 10 miles each way). I drove it almost everyday to run to town. I have re-done the batteries(june 2011), and had a fresh paint job put on it(july 2011). Technical information: 12 interstate SRM-29 batteries new in June 2011 cost $125 each = $1,500 D&D motor systems controller D&D motor model 170-004-0003 Curtis pot box controller? not sure on this Vehicle was originally outfitted with a kit from D&D, you can check out their web page for more info. It was set up as a 72 volt system, and I have kept it at 72 volts but installed a dozen 12v batteries. There are now two sets of six batteries run in parrallel. There is no more speed, but much greater distance. Originally it had nine 8v batteries, the range was about 15-20 miles. I have not run the car very low on charge, so I don't know the actual range. I think it will do up to 50 miles, with a more reasonable range of 30. The top speed of this car is 50 mph and will hold this speed very well. Car was driven almost everyday and will come with batteries fully charged, ready to go. depending on your driving/charging habits, the batteries should last up to 4 more years. Everything works on the car as it should, It will pass inspection without a problem. WHAT IT NEEDS: speedometer cable - was broken when i got the car, never cared to fix it. I just use my cell phone speedometer app. hood release cable - can be opened from the wire through the grille interior missing armrest trim piece sunroof leaks a little bit there is no heat, air conditioning, power steering or power brakes. I will include a small 12v heater that came with the car and I have never used. because of the upgraded batteries, the charger does not do very well. It should be upgraded or maybe just reprogrammed. I have been charging them 6 at a time with a regular battery charger for now(works fine for me). paint job is less than wonderful. It looks good from far, but the prep work was not done very well. The left rear quarter panel has some cracking from a previous dent. there is a small amount of rust starting on the rear wheel edges, only superficial and there is NO other rust on this car. The guy ended up losing his job at the paint shop partially because of this job. Car is available for local pickup.
