Vehicle Detail
1982 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel VIN: WDBCB20A2CB026330 Here’s another rare, great-running & driving Mercedes we’ve acquired recently for our Ebay customers. This nice 300SD sold new here at a local Benz Dealership and as spent virtually all its life driving our salt-free Pacific Northwest area roads. From the moment I first laid eyes on this exceptional sedan, it was obvious that it’s received the utmost respect and care over the years. Reluctantly, the 300SD was turned over to us the day after Thanksgiving by only its second owner for resale. I’ve got to tell you, having driven it virtually every day since, what a treat! Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (28+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one gorgeous ride? Please feel free to contact me with any questions. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct phone number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and drive this outstanding car.+++ I WILL PAY/CREDIT THE PURCHASER $500 TOWARD TRANSPORT OF THE CAR TO THEIR CHOSEN DESTINATION OR $500 TOWARD YOUR TRAVEL COSTS IF YOU ARRIVE HERE IN SEATTLE TO DRIVE THE MERCEDES HOME. +++ VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Ever driven one of these Mercedes with the powerful 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine? Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. I’ve always considered these W126 chassis cars constructed through the late-80’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard many others say the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me what a find this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall exterior condition is superior. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this Benz hates rust and you won’t find a thing to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and stays home. Climb over, under and all around this car - I know you’ll come up smiling!! Having personally owned more than twenty Benz models over the years, I’ve developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT JUST AS IT WAS MEANT TO. I’VE NEVER DRIVEN A VINTAGE 300SD THAT I’VE LIKED BETTER!! I’m convinced you’ll be proud to own and drive it as well. CONDITION: In total, this is an exceptionally clean, well cared for, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing attention: take six or seven seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts every time! The automatic transmission shifts strongly and just as it should. The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is supposed to – strong oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or alignment issues! I’ve now put on almost 3,000 miles over the past few months and freeway cruised at 70 MPH for hours. The factory original silver paint has had one high quality respray and is in great overall condition. Absolutely superior chrome and exterior trim all around, too! The front fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine condition for a 30 year-old car! No other real body flaws to point out, only a bulls-eye chip in the center of the windshield; all the other glass is perfect. The factory wheels are straight and true but have lost much of their chrome (a common fault on all Mercedes). They’re wrapped with 195/70R14 Toyo Eclipse radials with at least 70% tread remaining. Take another good look at the interior shots. Often, you’ll find worn springs and disintegrating cushion batting on these cars. This is NOT the case here. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these firm seats for hours. The original leather hides have not held up well and long ago were covered (very comfortably) with sheepskin covers. The rear bench is passable and would look great with only a re-dye. The A/C system has been upgraded to modern R124 refrigerant with an under hood sticker detailing the work. I’m assuming the odometer isn’t accurately reflecting true miles, although both it and the speedo work perfectly. There’s no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner and the power sunroof opens/closes at the push of a dash button. About the only other interior flaws are some UV-induced vinyl dash cracks as shown and a very occasionally sticky driver’s window switch – once or twice I’ve had to play with it a bit. The former owner was wise to change out the original Becker stereo with a nice Kenwood CD model. It works great and I like being able to use the handheld remote. The jack, spare and tools are in the trunk. We’re always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you’re also welcome to do what many of our previous buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done – fly in here to Seattle (We’ll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day! I wouldn’t hesitate (and in fact, I encourage you) to drive cross-country in this car! As a respected Ebay seller with many, many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this Benz runs and drives as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don’t be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up on the car. NO used vehicle is perfect. Having said that, I won’t hesitate to drive this Mercedes cross-country today! Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the Mercedes at our location and take it for a test drive. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer purchases on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Note to Bidders: Rest assured, we will NEVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of Ebay rules and Federal Law)! Please feel free to contact me directly thru Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from www.U-ship.com. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. As an alternative, you might also get a quote from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're Ebay's preferred transporter and have a link attached to the Ebay Motors home page that I suggest looking at. The zip code for pick-up would be 98032 to get an instant on-line quote from either source. The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. I’m always happy to assist by transporting your purchase to the nearest DAS terminal located in Lakewood, WA for an additional $100. DAS normally charges about $200.00 to pick up at our door. Make sure you inquire with your shipper about insurance coverage on the vehicles they transport. The vehicle can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.5% sales tax, document, transfer and registration fees (this means that the ONLY thing we’ll collect from an out-of-state buyer is a $50 document fee). Because the car is advertised and for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online. The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington. Whew! Don’t you just love legalese?
