Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1991 MR2 with a 1998 gen3 swap meticulously done. I have been working on this project for a year and a half now. Recent events have happened in my life and I am forced to sell it so close to completion. The car was bought as a 91 N/A to do the swap. The gen3 clip I had shipped from Japan. The clip had 70,000 km on it. The shell of the car has been completely stripped and refurbished and rebuilt. Modifications are minimal as I am not building it to be a race car but a driver with power and class so it is basically a blank canvas. Now the work that went into it front to back… Body; Entire car has had all bodywork done i.e. any small dings, shaved spoiler holes, any rust (which was very minimal) was treated and removed. The car has been block sanded and etch primered and is just about ready for paint. The only part to be sanded down and prepped is the engine lid. I am pretty sure the T-tops did leak, I don’t know because the car has been in the garage for the entire time I have owned it but some signs were there. So I removed all of the moldings, treated and resealed them. The engine bay was completely stripped of any bolts, wires, grommets, and cables, and misc. parts, sanded, and painted with the factory acrylic black of the car. The rear trunk was also sanded and painted with 3M spray on bed liner for a nice protection and finish (even though the trunk interior covers it). It has the gen3 spoiler, front lip, rear tail lights, mud flaps, engine hood, and trunk lid. TOMS side skirts, new front clear corner signal lights. The under carriage of the car was also redone. Completely undercoated. All plastic shields were all cleaned and refurbish to new condition. Interior; The interior is mint for the most part. The only part that needs replacing is the ash tray as usual with these cars. I had not replaced it because I have an hks turbo timer for the car and was just going to mount it there. Shift boot is great, it came with the clip as did the gen 3 rear glove box and center console. Those are all from the 98 clip. Dash has no cracks and looks like new. The stereo is a Sony cd deck with the usb plug. The carpet has a very small ware mark in the driver’s side (not very noticeable but I gotta tell you). There is a roll bar, bride steering wheel, gen3 shift knob. Engine and Engine bay; Every last piece and part of this build from the back of the door jams back has been converted to 1998. The engine has 70,000 km on it as does the LSD transmission. The clutch was not changed due to the fact that it had appeared upon inspection to be new. New parts added are as fallows; timing belt, tensioner, both pulleys, water pump, both hoses from hell, valve cover gasket, ngk spark plugs, Toyota plug wires, rotor and cap. New XS Power 3inch exhaust, walbro 255 fuel pump, radiator and hoses, battery, samco intercooler tubing, polished hot pipe and intake pipe. Blitz BOV. I have kept all of these old parts as there was really nothing wrong with any of them, but as you probably know, if the engine is out, change them while you can… Suspension and brakes; The front suspension was taken out of one of my donor cars because most of it was new. The front strut mounts are new, strut towers only a couple years old with new KYB strut inserts. New Tein 1.5 lowering springs all around. The rear suspension is entirely 98 gen3 with Bilstein struts, gen3 brakes. All rotors were machined. The front rotors are powerstop drilled rotors. Rack and pinion was also removed from my donor car because of the quality I was sure of. Front strut bar. Electrical; The engine to body wiring was professionally done for the swap. The only thing left to be done is to wire in the jdm gen3 gauge cluster. The cluster also came with the clip. It is a right hand drive cluster with the plugs, so everything is there to wire it in. but just so you know, it is not wired in. Also because it’s a jdm cluster, it only reads kmph not mph. I don’t know if that matters to you, I figured it was authentic… This car has been my main priority for a year and a half now. Thousands of hours and money has been sunk into this car. The car is extremely straight and extremely well built. I have owned 6 total MR2s over the past 13 years and know my way around them very well. This (gen3) was something I just had to build and it WILL break my heart to see it go, but its part of life… The car Drives perfect, runs perfect, steers perfect and brakes perfect!! I have reassembled the car before it was painted for the simple reason of selling it. In other words, I would paint it in pieces the right way... it’s much easier to put the car together if you or a body shop takes it apart…it does also need some new tires. The rims are nice but there is some curbing on two, Not horrible, but not perfect… So to sum it up, the car needs paint, tires and the gauges hooked up to be complete. For the 91 shell and VIN I have the certificate of non-titled motor vehicle which is notarized by the state of NH, the last registration and bill of sale, so yes I do have the paperwork for the car. As far as receipts, I do have some. Mostly for the big important things such as timing belt and all of the other engine parts from Kbox. Others have been misplaced as I never planned to sell it but to hand it down to my kid someday… I do on the other hand have hundreds of photos of the entire build step by step along the way… Also sold with the car are my spare MR2 parts. But I’d bring a box truck because there is a lot!! Hoods, engine lids, interior parts, wheels, fenders seats, all kinds of body parts, lights, wires, engine parts, brakes, spoiler, plastic guards, really I could go on forever, I just assume get rid of it all.
