Untitled Document UPDATE 3/14/2012: Re-listed due to non-paying bidders. Please don't bid if you don't intend to buy!1975 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster VIN: WDB10704412026954 Production date 06/75 Ivory exterior with Bamboo interior, seats are original leather. NEW brown soft top; hardtop included as well. The odometer reads 70,725 miles as of 02/29/2012, believed to be accurate and is evidenced by the clean original interior. Our Mercedes-Benz repair shop purchased this car from a customer about 1 1/2 years ago. Its original engine had seized due to oil pump failure, requiring complete engine replacement. We took it on as a shop project last Winter and performed the following work using an engine pulled from a 1973 300SEL 4.5 sedan: ENGINE AND MECHANICAL 1) The donor engine was completely disassembled. 2) The engine block, pistons, crankshaft, and crankshaft bearings were cleaned, inspected, and measured before reassembly with all new gaskets and seals. 3) Both cylinder heads were re-surfaced and received complete valve jobs (valves and seats re-ground, new valve guides and new valve stem seals.) 4) A new timing chain was fitted along with all new chain guide rails including those inside the lower timing cover. 5) Because this is a 1973 engine, there is no emissions air pump or EGR system. 6) The 1975 exhaust manifolds which had integral catalytic converters have been replaced with standard exhaust manifolds. 7) Catalytic converters have been installed below the car, as on the 1977-onward models. 8) While the engine and transmission were out of the car, the transmission input, output, and primary pump seals were replaced. 9) The front subframe mounts and engine mounts were replaced prior to engine reinstallation. 10) The steering idler arm bushings were replaced. 11) The engine was fitted with new belts, coolant hoses, and all new rubber fuel hoses including the injector lines. 12) The ignition coil, ballast resistors, distributor cap and rotor, ignition wires, and spark plugs are all new. 13) All operating fluids are new: Coolant, power steering fluid, ATF, differential oil, brake fluid. 14) We have recently installed new front shock absorbers, four new Kumho Ecsta ASX tires and performed a 4-wheel alignment. BODY 1) The body is in overall good condition, especially given the car's age. 2) The car's exterior color was changed to Ivory many years ago with an average-quality repaint. The original color was Byzantine Gold (see photo of exposed original paint on hood hinge spring.) 3) The exterior appearance of the car was updated at that time with the addition of a 560SL front spoiler, trunk-mounted third brake light, and 1986-onward style Mercedes-Benz 15" alloy wheels. 4) There are no dents and no collision damage. 5) There is one surface rust spot near the rear of the right front fender where the body side moulding is attached (see picture.) 6) There are several nicks and scratches overall (see pictures.) 7) The undercarriage is clean and solid with no rust perforation or structural issues. 8) We have just installed a new brown soft top (12/1/11) with all related weatherstrip pieces. 9) All exterior lights & lenses are intact and free of damage except for a small crack in the right front turn signal lens (below the bumper.) INTERIOR 1) The interior is original and in very good overall condition. 2) The leather seats are clean and free of stains, holes, rips, or tears. The seat padding and springs are intact and in good condition. 3) The leather piping along the outer vertical edge of both seat backrests is worn (see pictures.) 4) The carpeting is clean with some slight discoloration due to age. 5) The top of the instrument panel has a crack along the right side of the instrument cluster dome. 6) The interior door panels, console, kick panels, trim panels below the dash, instrument cluster, steering wheel, etc. are all in good shape. OVERALL This car starts, runs, and drives great. All accessories work except for the air conditioning. Here's your chance to get into a Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster at a bargain price, and you'll have a car that's road-ready without needing thousands of dollars of work because we've already done it for you.VIEW 68 PICTURES OF THE CAR ON OUR ZENFOLIO PAGE!blackforestllc.zenfolio.com/1975_450sl NOTES TO BIDDERS 1) Bidders with a feedback score of 5 or less must contact me prior to placing a bid.
