Vehicle Detail
1973 Porsche 914, running and driving. I purchased this car from the original owners son in law and had been sitting for some time. It came from Nevada and was told it had lived there most of its life . I had the intentions of restoring it for myself but work has picked up and has left me with very little extra time. The 1.7 liter engine runs strong and buzzes around town no problem. I removed all the old fuel, flushed the tank replaced the fuel lines and just did a tune up and oil change and also new front brakes pads. It has a Weber progressive carb in place of the fuel injection that could use some attention. the car starts up first try but is very cold blooded, once it gets warmed up it runs out smooth and accelerates good. The trans shifts good but can be tricky at times, I got used to it quick and have no issues. The brakes are marginal at best, the car stops but not very good. I do drive it daily however. The electrical is good and all but the wipers and rear heater motor work. The car has been repainted once and could use it again, it looks ok but up close its dry and a bit chalky like, not sure if it could be polished or not. It is fairly straight and I don't see any evidence of major body work. It has a dent in the front lower valance and a small section of body work around the driver side headlight bucket. The paint has chips and there is some door dings here and there. All the weatherstrips and targa top seals are dry and brittle and the windshield is cracked, door glasses and back window are good and targa top itself is ok.No evidence of rust other than two spots, the center of the battery tray and the rearward most part of the rear trunk. The floor pans, wheel wells, jack points, inner longs and all of the suspension and jack points are in very good condition. Only surface rust in the hell holes, poked at them with a pick and they are solid. The interior is there and the front seats are nice, has an aftermarket console with a working volt and temp gauge. The interior is a bit rough sporting some shoddy carpet and a plastic dash cover.Radio and interior lamp do not work. The passenger outside handle is busted but will include a good used one as well as a nice set of sun visors, A and B pillar pads, front lenses, drivers door pocket, cool wood shift knob, speedometer cable and some misc latches and hardware. All and all this car is really cool and fun to drive, it has some issues and to some it may be considered a driving project, but it has a ton of potential and has minimal rust issues. It would be a great car to restore or fix up while you drive it. Please feel free to ask any questions, I welcome them and wont be held accountable for any omissions. So again, please ask away or come by and check it out and drive it. This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early, and to cancel any bid by a bidder I feel does not have good intentions. I prefer not to deal with any out of the country transactions. Car to be picked up from my location at the buyers expense, I don't have time to deal with a shipper but will gladly assist meeting and help loading if you send a transport on your own accord. $500 deposit via PayPal within 24hrs of close of auction. Balance due and car picked up within 7 days unless otherwise discussed. Thanks for looking and Happy bidding!! On Mar-13-12 at 21:33:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for the questions, I welcome them! A few things I forgot to mention above that I would like to add. I do drive this around town but its a small town. I would not run the car at interstate speeds with the brakes the way they are and without newer tires. The dome lamp doesn't work because the housing is melted, the wiper switch is missing. The weatherstrips are not saveable, they are dry, brittle and cracked all to heck. The body work that you can see on the left front is more on the hood and top edge of the headlight cover, the housing itself and below the housing looks good. The fog lamps aren't working which is strange because I thought they did at one time, I will look into that. I have a clean AZ title and the mileage on the title is checked "A" as actual, however,I have no supporting documents and the odometer is not currently working . The car shows it's age so your on your own there. There is a spare tire mounted to a matching wheel which I believe are " Dan Gurneys" made by western. The car does have front and rear sway bars, not sure if it was an option on 1.7 cars or maybe this was originally a 2.0 car? I also have a set of good used 40 IDF Webers with linkage and manifolds and a set of 2 liter wheels I would sell outside of the auction .I'm being as honest as possible and have described things the best I can, please feel free to ask me anything about the car or send me your number and I will call if you would like to chat.
