Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1966 Dodge Charger Hemi Clone Creation. The car has had two owners since 1977. A friend of mine bought the black plate 67,000 mile Dodge Charger in Orange County California in 1977. He drove the car back to Minnesota and used the car in the summer months as it originally was for three years. He got the itch to turn the 318 car into a Hemi Creation in 1980. First up was the paint work. The car was rustfree so all that was needed was a Coronet R/T hood and some '68 Charger 426 Hemi Fender Emblems and Side Marker lights added to complete his creation. The car was then painted Candy Apple Red. Then a 1970 Hemi 4 Speed drivetrain out of a B-Body was purchased and installed in the Charger along with a big block K-Frame. A B-Body Dana 60 was put in as well. The brakes were also updated at that time with the dual master cylinder setup as well as disc brakes up front. The front seats were recovered and black carpet was installed. The car was completed in a year or so and enjoyed for 15 years. The car won 30+ car show trophies and numerous best of show awards. At some point the Centerline Convo Pros were added for a more aggressive look. In 1995 it was decided to part the car out for another Hemi car project. So the Hemi and Dana 60 were pulled. The original 8 3/4” rearend and springs were reinstalled. The 112,222 mile Charger was then sold to another friend of ours and he has had the car in its present state for 17 years until this winter when I purchased it. The transmission in the Charger is still the factory Dodge 1970 Hemi 18 spline 4 speed. The Hurst shifter is also the original 1970 unit as well. The Hemi dual exhaust is in good shape with an H-Pipe and Turbo Mufflers. All the engine wiring is still in the car as is the electronic ignition and power steering setup. Currently there is no motor or radiator. Other minor things may also be missing under the hood. The body is still rustfree with no scaly rust anywhere. The paint has cracked and is peeling on the topside of the quarter panels and doors. We believe this is from the subzero temps while in storage. Also the paint is now 30+ years old. The car still looks good from 20 feet minus the places where paint is actually missing. Interior wise it is still nice with factory 4 bucket seats. The rear seats need to be recovered. Carpet is decent. Dash pad is cracked in the middle. Door panels are very good as well. Has the factory AM Radio. Manual windows and locks. Has two gauges mounted in the glovebox oil pressure and temp. The glass is all good in the car. Overall the trim in quite decent still. The wheel well mldgs and rocker panel mldgs are very nice. The bumpers have some light pitting. The Centerlines need polishing but were coated with wax when stored in 1995. The tires have some weather checking. Clean clear title. The fender tag was removed when the car was painted. Possible reasonable delivery available. Thanks for looking. Email me with any questions.
